Guest guest
Where did you read that hair loss is related to iodine supplementation? Buist, NDOwner / Iodine Group when my hair loss will stop? Hi,I take Erfa and Iodoral (12,5mg) and since I started Iodine my hair loss started too, even worse when I was hypo. My ferritin is pretty good and my T3 too. Guest guest
That link is referencing bromide detoxing as being the cause of hair loss. Have you had your bromide levels tested? Hair loss can be linked to other things like hormones. Guest guest
Astragalus can really help with hair loss. Guest guest
I can't test bromide, I don't live in US. My hormone levels are OK. Guest guest
Ok, that makes it more difficult. Then if it were me I would concentrate on supporting detoxing through liver, salt, magnesium and Vit C. It did eventually stop but it took months. I also have relentless acne that I can somewhat control with evening primrose oil. My bromide levels always test slightly above the normal amount so I wasn't over the top on bromide. I've been off and on iodine for years now. I've only been on very low doses of iodine for the past 1.5 years (like 1/2 iodoral) and my most recent iodine test showed me with creeping up bromide again so I'm about to raise my dose again. I expect to see hairloss and acne once again. (A few weeks ago I tested this at 50mgs iodine for few days and my hair within days looked and felt horrible. Hair was all over the bathroom floor) Went off the iodine and it stopped. I use all support protocols I can find but I honestly don't know there's anything that can be done to mitigate it. You might try pulsing to ...i.e giving your body a slight rest by every other day dosing. I'm just going to tough it through and keep my hair well cut. I take a lot of evening primrose oil (2 1g tabs AM and 1 1g tab PM) That controls the acne to a degree but it might also help hairloss as it seems to stop some of the DHT production. It's a pretty cheap supplement to experiment with. Also am going to try moving my diet more into ketosis with low carbs, lots of coconut oil. That also might help by simply keeping all the pathways functioning more efficiently including the liver. There's a good blog about this on this here http://perfecthealthdiet.com/?p=2479 btw...this blogs also has some excellent posts on high dose iodine and hashimotos thyroids http://perfecthealthdiet.com/?p=3621 and http://perfecthealthdiet.com/?p=3650 Lynn

Guest guest
You might test thyroid levels. Some folks find they have to increase thier thyroid meds for a while. Astragalus can be a huge help though. Linn > > > > > I take Erfa and Iodoral (12,5mg) and since I started Iodine my hair > > loss started too, even worse when I was hypo. Guest guest
oh yes I've been on and off high dose iodine for years just not recently. I'll be slowly moving it up to 50 mgs over the next few weeks and holding it there for awhile until my bromide drops. If that doesn't do it I'll move it to 100mgs. I have done that before and got bad acne and hairloss but it cleared up breast problems. I'm actually not 100% sure the acne and hairloss is from bromide...or it could be bromide is promoting a DHT pathway. Dr. Flechas told me the hairloss should eventually stop and most people actually find more hair but mine doesn't stop totally. And I do use selenium from lef. I'm now on 200mcg. I've tried raising and lowering that but doesn't seem to affect the acne and hair problems. Guest guest
A nutritionist friend recommended, cancer patients sometimes use it to prevent their hair loss. If your selenium levels are high though, I wouldn't recommend it. Guest guest
What is NTH? I do run slightly hypo sometimes...used to be worse but iodine cleared that. Yes I tested my DHT also and it's normal. I've had problems with cystic acne off and on my whole adult life. Off iodine I have extremely clear pretty skin but on iodine it's always a mess. I'm 57 so acne shouldn't be such a problem. The evening primrose oil and fermented cod liver oil are the most helpful things I've found. (including rubbing cod liver oil into my skin...sounds repulsive because of the smell but that goes away very fast) I've been experimenting and reading about iodine since this group started in 2006. So I've been on I at various high levels for long periods and always have some degree of hairloss plus the oils change so my hair feels dry and flat. The worst hairloss is in the beginning and then it tapers off but it's there. This go around with iodine I'm considering using some of my estrogen in my shampoo or making a hair leave-in tonic to see if that will help. Lynn > > Hi Lynn, > > Do you take NTH? Guest guest
Too high of selenium can cause hair loss. Also a good idea to double check multi vitamins and other combo type supplements for selenium content. Sometimes folks can be taking too much and not realize it. Guest guest
Lynn I have the same on and off cystic acne my whole adult life...have been doing Iodine and yes my skin is bad...but it was bad before Iodine. I have no hair loss...but have always felt my acne was due to imbalanced sex hormones...and or stress. I will try the cod liver and evening primrose..because I am so tired of the outbreaks and scars. I am 46 and peri menopausal too. I eat very clean..no dairy, sugar or gluten..organic etc sigh > > > > Hi Lynn, > > > > Do you take NTH? Are you hypo? > > > > I tested my DHT and I have a normal level. I don't have acnea.I read that taking iodine could give hair loss but after few months it stopped at some people but I wonder how many months do I need to see less hair loss... > > > > Thank you for the blog links, I already read them, very interesting! > > > > > > > > > > > > > I've had horrible hairloss with iodine.
