Guest guest
Pat, With the history of her beloved father committing suicide when she was 10, I'd say there is likely to be some traumatic material under all this. The anger and depression would also go with that. Any physical symptoms? I would try the following in my first 5 sessions to see how she responded: 1. F3/A1/ground/A2/F4 squash of sum channels (if you have BMScope working)with eyes closed in a very comfy chair. 2. T3/Fp1/ground, block 3-5 and 23-38 and reward 15-18 3. T4/Fp1/ground, block same and reward 12-14 or 11-15 (if the amplitude is very low). 4. T3/T4/ground, block same and start rewarding the above frequency, but try reducing it during the session. See how she does during and after one session of each of these. Ask mom to report as well. BTW, did you get an issues checklist from Mom? How did it differ from hers? Interesting case. Keep us posted. Pete where to start? Hi Pete, have a new client who is 18, recently graduated with what may have been a " social promotion " . The assessment comes up with 9 possible P, a couple possible T or F (sns 31, pns 83), 2 S. Marked 44 issues with a " 3 " . Balance was 80%, flexibility, control both about 40%, energy 7%. Central, frontal & parietal all about 40-50%, temporal 17%. T/B ratio unbalanced to right, frontal alpha imbalance - frontally. Frontal midline had excessive high beta with alpha slowing. SM strip t/b ratio high, a/t ratio low Parietal, L power over right, t/b ratio high, a/t ratio low Temporal l power over right, t/b ratios high The assessment tells me the ratios are high in some areas with eyes open -not eyes closed. Poor concentration, very poor decision making, teachers call her lazy, mom feels she could do anything she put her mind to She's just living with her parents, no job, unsure if she could hold one at this point. Is angry at least once a day, huge tantrums til 7 or 8. Very dependent on mom, close with " stepdad " , bio dad committed suicide when she was 10 (they think he may have been ill), was daddy's girl. At fz theta is 2.9, al 2.3,beta 1.4 At cz " is 3.2, al 3.1, beta 1.6 fpt-t4 theta is 5.5, al. 4.9, beta 2.5 f3-cp5 theta 3.6, al 3.4, beta 2.1 I see some depression, low self-esteem - her affect is good in the office, talkative, slow processing questions. Guest guest
Welcome to the group, Liz! It's great to hear that your doctor recommended BFL! I have a great bench at home that I can highly recommend, it's made by Danskin, here's a link: http://www.shopsports.com/store/product_display.asp?sku=CSX01455 . It comes with 3-5-8lb dumbbells and lies completely flat, inclines at several degrees and sits straight up, and also, if you're careful, you can use it as a decline bench too. I found mine at a local sports store, you might look there first to save on shipping. Good luck! Maggie
Guest guest
The other day when I was in Costco, I saw they had a complete set of dumbbells with a rack for less than $140, and they also had a couple different models of benches/home gyms--by far the cheapest I have seen. I also heard that Target and Walmart have inexpensive basic equipment. lastly, you can check your local classified ads--I always see ads for gently used exercise equipment and most of the sellers just want to get it out their house rather than make back their money. Guest guest
Dear Liz; Good for you doing so well! I used a personal trainer in the beginning and thought it was a very good investment. I didn't know anything about working out or using the equipment at the gym. My suggestion is, if you have any more sessions left with your trainer that you ask him/her to give you a list of exercises / machines that are good for you to do on your workouts alone without his/her help. Your trainer KNOWS your workout and how you've been progressing. This is a definite advantage that will help you get started on BFL! Tap into his/her brain of wisdom to guide you as you take the challenge into you own hands! Trainers are great to have; but can be costly. I kept my trainer for 2 years and boy, did it burn a whole in my pocket! But was it worth it, yes! I have no regrets keeping him that long. I, personnally, needed that " cheerleader, motivator, drill sergeant " and worst of all, he expected me to loose weight with each and every week. I needed that " extra " pressure. If I could, I would hire mine back in a heart beat; but in the meantime, I'll try to be all those things to myself. I wish you much luck and " SUCCESS! " on your BFL challenge! , Houston, TX > I am starting my first challenge on 1/1. I have lost 17 lbs with > Atkins while alos working out at the gym 3 times a week with a > trainer. Guest guest
Using a trainer has made all the difference to me. It keeps me going. I have cut back to once a week with the trainer and twice a week alone. He wrote up a routine for me to follow. Before I start the challenge I am going to meet with him to go over the BFL program and see how to tweak for me. I wish I could continue to work with him 3 days a week. Thanks for the words of encouragement. Liz > > I am starting my first challenge on 1/1. I have lost 17 lbs with > > Atkins while alos working out at the gym 3 times a week with a > > trainer. Guest guest
Thanks. My doctor is doing BFL as well. I hesitated at first but realized that Atkins was not the best thing for me. I am actually enjoying the workouts. I stopped vaccinating all 3 of my dogs 6 years ago after they developed health issues like hypothyroidism at age 2, and allergies that got worse year after year etc... Guest guest
FYI-- We homeschool in the state of CA, with an accredited homeschool here in the state of CA, and I had to file an exemption. We had previously gone through a school in Virginia, and it never came up. I was surprised to have to do it this year, but I took a philosophical exemption, with a very carefully-worded letter that I got off some anit-vax site, and it was accepted, luckily. Guest guest
Welcome, and laws on vaccine mandates are for daycare/school entry (although where is it that requires homeschoolers, too)? You are right to hold off until you do your research. I would read Neil 's book--what is the name of the new one, people? Sheri mentioned it recently. The old one is Vaccines: Are they Really Safe and Effective? Read that and Randall Neustaedter's The Vaccine Guide. And no parent should be without Mendelsohn's How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor. That should keep you busy for now. Good luck! Winnie Where to start? Guest guest
Hi Toni, Welcome to our forum! The book Winnie is referring to is " Vaccine Safety Manual For Concerned Families and Health Practitioners " . It's very thorough. Also, I highly recommend this video: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/02/14/why-vaccines-aren-\ t-safe.aspx. Very well done and easy to understand. It sites several references you can research further yourself, if you choose to. Another book I highly recommend is " How to Raise a Healthy Child... In Spite of Your Doctor " by S. Mendelsohn, M.D. I'll quit there, so you're not too overwhelmed with info. Congratulations on your pregnancy, and good for you for questioning and researching this issue before your little one is here. Every child should be so lucky to have a mom that would look out for them like that! Guest guest
Didactic Mediums is having an event on Vaccines and its effects on health. The guest speaker is Dr Sherri Tenpenny, a medical doctor who once advocated and administered vaccines, but after years of research now speaks out AGAINST vaccines and works with children who have been injured by vaccines. This is a very important topic that cannot be ignored and we all must get informed so that we make good decisions for our children AND even ourselves. Dr Tenpenny is nationally reknowned and very outspoken about vaccines. She has been on CNN, where they set her up, and she wrote a letter to them stating this, and she also speaks frequently on WBAI 99.5 FM NY. You can check her out and learn a lot about vaccines at www.drtenpenny.com. ; While you are there check out the CDC Mandatory Vaccine Schedule (upper left hand corner) and see how drastically mandatory vaccines has increased within the last 25 years. She is phenomenal, you must come out to see her. The event will be held on June 22, 2008 at 2:00PM - 6:00PM at the New York City College of Technology, Klitgord Auditorium, 275 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY between Tillary and Willoughby streets (just off of the Brooklyn Bridge). This is especially important for New Yorkers as Governor is about to sign a bill mandating vaccines for certain workers and school children, and for the first time vaccines will be mandatory for infants and toddlers, Vaccines have gone from 10 to 36 in the past and now the bill is proposing an increase of 28 vaccines to bring it to a grand total of 54 vaccines your children will receive before the age of 5. For more info on the bill, go to mykidsmychoice.com/Demo.html. The Armish community does not vaccinate their children and they have 0 cases of autism. After America " liberated " Kuwait, and started vaccinating their children, the autism rate there went from 1 in 100,000 to 1 in 400 in 2 years. Are the vaccines responsible, you make the call. Either way, INFORMATION is key and our children are too precious to not have the facts. Come out on June 22 and get the FACTS. > > Hi All, I am new to the list and never thought I would need to know > > all this info about vaccines because I didn't plan on having > > children. > > > > I stopped vaccinating all 3 of my dogs 6 years ago after they > > developed health issues like hypothyroidism at age 2, and allergies > > that got worse year after year etc... I know there are a few members here from PA. Hopefully someone will chime in with the info you are looking for soon. I know how you feel but you are in good company here. And you are to be commended for giving this such serious thought. The only thing I can suggest is that you read, read and read some more. It is a lot of inofrmation and yes, it does get overwhelming at first because it goes against everything you have been brainwashed to believe. Its like the matrix... its really deep and this issue is about alot more than vaccines.  In order to protect our babies and their future generations we must be diligent in reading as that is the only way to really  deprogram our consciousness of all the propaganda and garbage we've been fed. good luck ari.  Arianna Mojica-  (UCC 1-207/1-103) ~~~ " All rights not demanded are presumed waived " . ~ Thurston Re: Where to start? > welcome aboard! > > where are you Tori? what state? Guest guest
Hi there, I know tons of you homeschool and everyone on here makes it seem like it is such a simple thing to do. Now, I know nothing about homeschooling or how it is done or even what it required to homeschool anyone, but is it really as simple as you it is made out to be? I can't even begin to know where and how to start to teach my child anything that is taught in school when she becomes of school age. At a toddler age now, we try and teach her the basics but actually teaching different subjects for their grade levels boggles me. Please feel free to enlighten me! Guest guest
15 years ago I was in a teacher training program in Mississippi. There were teachers that were grandfathered into the education system who had only an 8th grade education; they were grandfathered in from the days of separate schools for blacks and whites. I was very resistant to homeschooling, but encouraged by my husband. We started with preschool. As a year passed, I could see that I was capable of teaching the next year. We're starting 6th grade this year and I'm confident that I can figure it out through highshool. One thing about public education is that at least half of the education classes are centered around classroom management - how to deal with classes for 20-30 children. If you read, balance your check book, double a recipe, calculate tax on items, you are definitely good through 6th grade, in some places, through highschool:) as having the knowledge to teach your child. I would figure 10 minutes of actual teaching time as a highschool algebra teacher for a 40 minute class period. The rest of the time was attendance, classroom shuffle, collecting papers, etc. That's 10 minutes for 30 students. If you can give you child 10 minutes one-one in each of the subjects that you desire your child to learn, you are likely exceeding most highschool classroom these days. Homeschool laws, like vaccination exemptions vary state by state. There are resources out there for each state. Guest guest
Kathy that does sound amazing, but I guess my question really is, how do you know what to teach them, where do you come up with an actual lesson plan? I can recall the bits and pieces of what I learned in high school, but I can't even imagine or maybe even have that confidence to teach my child school subjects and I can do all those things you mentioned........ Guest guest
Hi Tori, I am quite new to learning about vaccines as well. We vaccinated my son for his 2 month vacccines (then I met Arianna who is on this list and happens to live near me and she urged me to research the issue). I agree, there's SO much info that it can boggle your mind. But I am not so much interested in the back and forth arguments and so on- my husband and I just decided to go right to the facts. We looked at the list of ingredients that are in vaccines which is on the CDC website : http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/downloads/appendices/B/exci pient-table-2.pdf ....and we though, OK, do we object to any of these ingredients being injected into our son? Obviously, if you read the list I can't imagine you'd want ANY of that stuff injected into your child. So then we looked at each vaccine to see what exactly it is for, how likely it would be that our son would contract that disease, and if he did what could the consequences be? We just stuck with the facts- we didn't feel any of the diseases were statistically likely enough for him to contract...and the ones that are more possible to contract (such as chicken pox) do not worry us. I am not really familiar yet with the legal aspect of vaccinating because I am planning on homeschooling. But I can possibly help you with cloth diapers I recently started a blog- it is in its very early stages, but I have posted about my experience with cloth diapers so feel free to take a look. And trust me, it took awhile for me to figure out what cloth diapers I would go with as well! http://onthegreennow.blogspot.com/ Amber > > Hi All, I am new to the list and never thought I would need to know > all this info about vaccines because I didn't plan on having > children. > > I stopped vaccinating all 3 of my dogs 6 years ago after they > developed health issues like hypothyroidism at age 2, and allergies > that got worse year after year etc... Guest guest
Hi Rina, I am sure you can homeschool- I really think anyone is capable of homeschooling their children much better than a teacher can teach them in school. At least until you reach say, physics and calculus or something Or maybe that's just me! Anyway, I believe you know what you child needs and can provide for them educationally a whole lot better than the generic education they'd receive at school. If you have specific questions about education, feel free to ask. I plan on homeschooling, but my son is just 6 months old as of now I have my masters in elementary education and I've taught in public school for awhile. But I don't plan on going back- hence the homeschooling. I don't want to say too much because it's OT, but you can order homeschooling curriculum as a skeleton for yourself...and then just supplement or tailor to your needs. If you want to know what you should be teaching, you can always look online at the state mandated curriculum... I am pretty sure each state/city has to post it on their department of education website. Like, standards and goals- if that's something you want to aim for. Also, there's tonsssss of info online too. Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions: ambergacosta@... Guest guest
THANK YOU AMBER, YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!! Just as Ariana is!! You truly answered my question and when it comes to that time for my toddler to go to school, I think I would love to look a LOT more into homeschooling.
