Awww...You are very welcome! Yes, I have to agree- Arianna is

awesome :))

I hope you get to look into homeschooling- it's positive in every

way as far as I'm concerned. And you CAN do it.

Also can go to your local library and look up homeschoolong books.

Miine is very tiny and it had a few. You can also get a library

loan, and ask for an inter library loan once you start getting more

titles. All the books I found first had many titles to recommend.

Hi everyone,

I had a session with Jackie Kay (hi Jackie) who told me she believes I have

hypothyroidism. I've been reading through the files and WOW this describes me to

a T. There just seems so much to learn and take in though. I'm not sure where to

start. Thoughts? Jackie

Hi Jackie

Glad you've joined !!!  Join the friendly club.  I know it may be overwhelming (I've had two months of overwhelm) BUT you're in the right place and that's a great start.

I'll leave you to the far more experienced wonderful people on here to respond.

Hi Jackie:

So happy you have found the forum ! First, do you have any recent thyroid test

results? We need FreeT3, FreeT4, and TSH to start. Have you taken the adrenal

test and how did you score on that? We need to look at adrenals first to see if

they are working well. What adrenal fatigue symptoms do you have, if at all?

What supplements are you currently taking?

The adrenal stress questionnaire showed that I have severe adrenal fatigue.

Should I start by doing the adrenal fatigue diet? It does advocate wheat though

(2 slices of wholemeal bread) is that ok? Jackie

Hi Jackie:

ARe you asking about the bread because you are on a gluten free diet?

Let's get some vitamins and celtic sea salt into you first thing. The first

thing when you wake up, take 1/2 teaspoon of celtic sea salt in a glass of water

and drink it down. Repeat that a couple times throughout the day. Vitamin C at

3000/4000 mgs a day separated throughout the day. Magnesium 400 mgs, and

selenium 200 mcgs. A good B complex and a B12 supplement. Do you have any recent

labs? Do you know how your iron levels are? Have you had your Ferritin checked?

How about vitamin D3?

Sheila's list of vitamins:

Here are some links to the reasons why you need to have these levels of certain

vitamins and minerals checked and their connection to your thyroid and metabolic

status.

Hi,

Thanks so much for this. I asked about the bread because Jackie found I may have

a wheat intolerance. I'm on no particular diet at the moment.

I don't have any recent tests, but a few months ago my doctor said he tested for

EVERYTHING and all came out normal. Maybe I need to go back and ask? What tests

should I ask him to do?

Thanks again, Jackie

OK will do. Do I ask for the results of all tests done, ot just the ones

relating to thyroid and iron? Jackie

post them for us? You have a legal right to get a copy of your test results. You

can ask the surgery to send them to you or perhaps they can give you the info

over the phone. That will help us see what's up.

This is the list I like tested:

TSH

Free T4

Free T3

RT3 (Reverse T3)

Ferritin (Iron reserve - very IMPORTANT)

Iron Serum

Anti-TP

TgAb (Thyroid Antibodies)

Adrenal Cortisol levels (swab test-Adrenal Fatigue test)

B-12

Folate

Magnesium

Potassium

Vitamin D3

Copper

Zinc

Aldosterone

You'll have to give him Sheila's list of vitamins which explains why you need

these tested. She will be able to help you write a letter to him telling him

why you want these tests.

Cheers,

JOT

Maybe I need to go back and ask? What tests should I ask him to do?

To be honest if it comes back and he has done everything and they're within

normal limits I don't know what I'll do. I had my grandchildren overnight last

night, I have just taken them back and am utterly exhausted, and aching all

over. :(

firstly, don't jump the gun and worry unnecessarily :-)

secondly, i very much doubt he'll have tested everything. Everything!! I went

abroad recently, they tested about 50 things I think, not half a dozen like the

nhs. what he has tested for may show normal, but he may not have tested the

right things.

thirdly, people can still have symptoms despite normal tests - no problem, you

just see a doctor who will trial meds based on symptoms, and see if those

symptoms resolve on treatment.

fourthly, 'normal' doesn't mean optimal. Eg, testosterone can be between 8 and

30 something. Imagine two people, a 90 year old man, and a 18 year old. Do you

think 8 is a good level for an 18 year old? Is 34 a good level of testosterone

for someone that old? Normal means very little on it's own, you have to

interpret results along with several other factors - symptoms, age, and so on.

fifthly, maybe it's not thyroid, maybe another hormone. but that can be treated

too.

Hi Jackie

Mine were all considered 'normal'

by GP's (stupid) standards as are many others on this site, and we all have symptoms BUT I am starting to feel so much better on the right meds

(obtained privately in my case) as do others :)

Don't give up Jackie, that's why TPA is here - people have come

to this forum who have no hope left whatsoever that they will ever regain their

normal health, but we have shown hundreds of our members in the past that there

IS light at the end of the tunnel. Sadly, though, not when it comes to the NHS in

even understanding very much about the metabolic system and the functioning of

the greater thyroid system or any of the associated conditions that go

alongside.

It seems you have reached a point where you need to decide whether

to stay with your present doctor and follow his treatment (or lack of

treatment) protocol at present, or you take your thyroid health into your own

hands.

If the latter, this will mean doing lots of reading and asking

lots of questions if you are really determined to give this a go, and most of

all. You have to be 100% determined - and most of all, you need to be brave. It

is nothing less than criminal that our NHS is forcing tens of thousands of

sufferers to take their health into their own hands where they are being left

to self diagnose, self treat and self monitor .

Thanks everyone. that link didn't work, it said " Document not found " . I

got this when I clicked Sheilas link too. Sheila, I am really just at the very

beginning of all this. I've been showing symptoms for years and have had lots of

tests and was giving up hope when Jackie pointed me here. I rang my surgery this

morning and was asked lots of questions as to why I wanted the results. Then I

was told if I really insisted on having them, I would need to make an

appointment with the doctor. So my appointment is on Weds. Jackie

Hi Jackie

Point your surgery to this http://www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/1309.aspx?categoryid=68 & subcategoryid=160

Doctors are NOT allowed to withhold ANY of the information that is in your

medical notes under the Date Protection Act 1998, and you do NOT have to give

them a reason why you need your results. These are YOUR results and you can do

with them what you wish. If they insist on a response, tell them that you wish

to keep a diary of events regarding your health, because you need to find out

what is causing your problems. You should perhaps just drop them a note and let

the surgery have it, putting your request in writing for your blood test

results together with the reference range for each of the tests done to be made

available to you.

Please try going to:

don't let the dr browbeat you about your results.

Hi,

Just got back from the docs and I must admit I feel like crying. He said the TSH

level was normal (0.2 apparently) He gave me a list of the tests he did in

March:

Full Blood Count

Thyroid Function Test

Urea and Electrolytes

Glucose

Liver Function Tests

Chest X-Ray

ALL came back normal.

I showed him the list Jot posted and he crossed them off one by one, saying he

tested things that would have shown up things which would lead him to test those

things, so no need to test for them.

happy about my questioning the tests he did. I feel deflated. I will do the

temperature taking and go from there. Thanks. Jackie

I posted a message with what he gave me but it hasn't appeared.

He said my TSH was well within range (0.2 apparently) and these were the tests

Urea & Electrolytes

Glucose

Liver Function Tests

Chest X-Ray.

They all came back normal. I showed him the list Jot posted and he said all

these tests would have shown something if I had a problem with any of those. :(

He just wrote the tests down I posted. There were no results but I did notice

the TSH was 0.2. He said my problems are not physical, I was perfectly healthy,

and it was probably psychological. :(

It will - once gets itself sorted out - in fact, I have

already responded to this message Jackie, so it must have appeared. They are

having problems, and passing problems on to us in the bargain. I have answered

this, so watch out and see how long it takes to arrive - if it does.
