Dear SheilaYou MAY feel that I have a good case study because I have the added issue of now having a serious heart problem almost certainly caused by long term untreated thyroiditis/adrenal fatigue. Also I had to give up a high powered senior job in London and had many periods of long term sickness in previous positions put down to “viral fatigue” (costs to employers/taxpayer), spent may years on anti-depressants, was hospitalised for a week, and nearly once before, due to constipation – well the list goes on. In my case I felt the NHS spent a fortune on treating my symptoms, over more than 10 years, whilst never getting to the underlying cause because all my thyroid tests were ‘normal’. Where my case study may not suit is that I DID get support from my GP after about a six month period of self-treatment following a consultation with Dr Skinner. Also, when Dr Skinner moved me onto T3 treatment I still got support. The only way the GP has failed me is on the adrenal side which I started treating after seeing Dr Peatfield, and for which I still pay privately. However they have my treatment on record and are happy to provide me with a private prescription for hydrocortisone. I think the adrenal side was highly important in my overall thyroid problem due to the level of stress in my work (and sometimes home life) and can’t help wondering if treatment for this would have reduced the severity of my thyroid symptoms. Another reason I may not be acceptable is that I will be in France until 9th October so this may not make me a suitable candidate, though of course we have phone and email etc.So impressed with how the campaign is progressing thanks to your tireless efforts. Happily I can report that I am ticking along quite nicely now though must have one of my telephone sessions with Dr P soon, but first I have to get to grips with a bit of serious recording of my temperature etc which I have let slip due to being largely OK again. Ho hum eh!
