Guest guest
Hi , I'm Jen welcome to our group. I'm sure that once you get to know us you will love it here. I haven't been consistent with using my exercise videos either...I'm so BAD! The only thing I've been doing consistently is playing volleyball (3 or 4 nights a week,) bowling on 3 leagues and taking a swim strokes class once a week...but I'm working on doing better. Guest guest
Hi , I'm from Michigan and now down to 187 unread messages in this group, up from well over 300 earlier today (my son has been sick so I'm up at 2:30 in the morning praying he won't throw up again). I have 2 kids, a boy 9 and a girl 6 and an absolutely amazingly awesome DH (and no, he's not reading over my shoulder and he'd actually be embarrassed to know I mentioned him at all in a posting). I've been working out with this group off and on for about 18 months but I finally got really serious last Christmas Day (why that day, I don't know) and started working out consistently at least 3-7 times a week with 4-6 being my average. I worked up very slowly, starting from, as I said, working out here and there and then committing to 3 days a week, at least 20 minutes. After I did that for a few weeks I pushed myself to do 4 days a week, at least 20 minutes each and so on. In the nearly year I've been doing this regularly I've really seen by body and attitude change. I love exercising now, I really love it. I miss it when I get out of the habit for a week or so because of vacation, illness or life getting in the way but I try to get right back in as quickly as I can because the longer I'm off the longer it will take me to get back on. This group has been a HUGE part of my success because they motivate, inspire and cheer for me (as we do every single member). I want to post my workouts because then I feel more accountable. I've seen you've already gotten some great ideas for videos, plus you have a bunch of your own. I can add Sansone for cardio (though she does drive me nuts with her constant talking sometimes, the Walk Slim and I think, the 5 Mile videos all have a music only option which is a lifesaver on days I can't take her chatter), 10 Minute Solution videos for whatever interest you have since you can customize your workout so nicely, Tamilee Webb's I Want That Body for toning you can grow with and Kathy workouts too (strength and cardio). Kathy gets a little wild (screaming with enthusiasm) in some of her videos but it doesn't usually last too long and if you're quick, you can hit mute just as she starts! :-) I'm a Weight Watchers leader and I'd say your goals are good but you need to be more detailed about them to make them really work. How long do you want it to take to drop the 60 pounds? Safe weight loss is 1/2 to 2 pounds per week. Plan when you would like to be x number of pounds down by and then plan a reward (non food, like a new exercise video!) when you reach that goal, then set another, etc. Incremental goals will help keep you motivated because your progress won't be instantaneous and that can get frustrating for sure. How will you know you are getting "toned" too? What do you expect to look like? How do you expect to feel? What do you think other people will say when they see you? Asking yourself questions like that helps to create a more detailed picture of your goal so that is more real and therefore, more motivating. Kassia's eating suggestions (in other notes) are AWESOME!! I can't really add much to them at all at this time except to suggest you monitor how hungry you are and try to stay "comfortable" (as in not hungry and not full). When we're "full" we're sluggish feeling. When we're "satisfied" we've given our bodies the fuel it needs to do whatever we need to accomplish (food is just fuel when it comes right down to basics but of course, we want to give ourselves fuel we enjoy too so find healthy things you like and add in occasional treats when denying them to yourself will just make you feel worse than if you'd eaten them). If you follow her suggestions you'll be eating food that keeps you satisfied longer (so you're less likely to grab things out of desperation), plus add in regular exercise, you will definitely get awesome results. Anyway, welcome to this fun, friendly group. Sometimes, like lately, we're super chatty, other times we're quieter but we're always supporting each other and having fun together. All levels of exercise intensity and all levels of experience are welcome. I'm glad you've joined us! I have brewed a few batches of kombuca but never really put everything into it. I want to start again but can't find a starter mushroom. I thought I read somewhere that if you can get a bottle of kombucha you can let it sit a room temp and it will grow a baby is that true or was I dreaming I read this? I live in Massachusetts. Can anyone give me a good source for a starter baby? >

Guest guest
Hi J, Thanks for the support. I was brewing about two years ago and did very well. I was having a hard time finding a place to brew it. I had it in my bedroom bathroom that we really don't use but it really started to smell up the bedroom like vinegar, but my batches were really tasty. I still have all the supplies but I am looking for a very large glass jar. I was using a huge glass Pyrex salad bowl and my scoby was huge. Guest guest
Go to this link kombucha tea/messages Then type in keyword and hit search. you will find all posts relating to whatever keyword you use. I saw some amazing pictures of shelves of Pyrex salad bowls filled with KT and beautiful THICK SCOBYs! (Google, 'pictures of Kombucha Tea') So I guess it's true that the wider the container the better. Do you have Sprouts nearby, they sell gallon jars too! If you are looking for 2plus gallon jars you might have better luck finding them online! Try Amazon.com Like people who wouldn't shop at Wal-Mart, I would not buy from E-BAY! *shudder* J From: kombucha tea [mailto:kombucha tea ] On Behalf Of PeggyR Sent: Saturday, March 20, 2010 4:41 PM kombucha tea Subject: Re: New Member here Hi J, Thanks for the support. Guest guest
I was diagnosed by my doc with hypothyroidism and put on levothyroxine 25 mg Oct 2010. Two months ago the same doc observed my blood pressure (BP) was high and suggested BP med. I will turn 57 this July and have always been active and fit and never had high blood pressure (although my weight got a bit away from me past two years between being depressed as small business owner in slow economy and partner leaving). Anyway, I refused blood pressure med and eliminated coffee and any alcohol from my diet but that did not lower BP. Three weeks ago I started the HCG diet and have dropped 15 pounds of body fat (10 days to go on that diet if I don't extend weight loss period longer). After two weeks on HCG diet BP was still high and I finally realized it must be the levothyroxine causing high BP. I stopped taking levothyroxine and blood pressure was within normal range within two days. Only problem is I have no energy and cannot concentrate without the thyroid med (and I have to follow through on my HCG diet). I have mail ordered some iodoral that will arrive later this week. Since stopping the thyroid med I've been taking a 125mcg per drop iodine liquid (taking 1/2 teaspoon twice a day and I estimate that's about 15mg). A few days of this iodine did not give me any energy. Out of desperation yesterday I went to the health food store and bought Standard Process Thytrophin PMG (109mg of proprietary blend of magnesium citrate and bovine thyroid PMG). Taking one tablet 3 times a day and experienced an immediate benefit of being able to focus my mind with improvement in energy. My instinct is to postpone doing the high dosage iodoral until I finish the HCG diet. I am trying to figure out the best thing to do to regain some energy in the meantime (the classic low thyroid symptoms are hell especially since I have lots of tasks and chores to accomplish near term). I'm forced to do this on my own because of lack of finances otherwise and I'm glad to find this group. Any helpful comments are appreciated. Guest guest
H ,You may really need thyroid medication, but the better is natural desiccated thyroid. Iodine will help your body, but is not a replacement for thyroid meds. You might be able to heal your thyroid enough to not need the meds in the future, but it takes time, and if your thyroid has been too damaged, you might not get off the meds. But the iodine will always feed your body and help it in many areas. Also, I am just rereading The Miracle of magnesium by Carolyn Dean, and it points out that high BP can be caused by a magnesium deficiency. Magnesium is used by many other parts of your body also, so I would make sure you are taking plenty! Guest guest
High BP is a complex issue & off-topic, but I would recommend you get a book like "The High Blood Pressure Hoax," which discusses several things you can do to reduce your BP. Mineral balance is important -- magnesium & potassium, in particular. Many of us have found our hypothyroid symptoms improving on Iodoral. Some people find that it spurs the thyroid to work better without the need for thyroid meds. (Some still need them.) Since many of us feel better really quickly, I am hard pressed to see why you would want to wait.Personally, I am not a fan of special diets. If a diet changes the way your body works, it generally only changes it for as long as you are willing to stay on the diet, & many of the diets are not tolerable for the long term. And SOMETIMES I think a diet can keep you from addressing underlying causes. If you have food sensitivities, for example, you feel better avoiding the foods. But often you can get rid of the sensitivities with liver cleanse, supplements, etc. -- because sometimes the sensitivities are caused by being toxic. Avoiding the trigger foods does not take care of the underlying toxicity.AnneOn May 16, 2011, at 7:36 AM, stephen wrote: I was diagnosed by my doc with hypothyroidism and put on levothyroxine 25 mg Oct 2010.
