can iodine trigger gout?

I started taking iodine several months ago, up to 10 drops daily of 2% Lugol's.

Very soon after that, I started to have morning stiffness in my hands/fingers.

(I am 39 with no health problems). I stopped taking iodine about a month ago

just because I was too busy to remember to take care of myself. Since then, the

finger stiffness has remained and recently gotten much worse...like arthritis

worse. It's my dominant hand, worse in two fingers. This was a clear, sudden

increase in stiffness and pain.

I restarted the iodine today. I also take the companion supplements of

magnesium, selenium, and Juice Plus to cover the rest of the vitamins/minerals.

Can iodine supplementation trigger problems like this in someone who is very

deficient? I assume I am very deficient just based on diet.

thanks!
