Guest guest
Yes. To reiterate, there is NO SUCH THING as " too much iodine " because the body washes out anything it can't use. However, there is no way one can detox once and for all when we live in a world in which we all now have a toxic burden in our bodies and there are more and more and more toxic chemicals dumped into our environment every day. So if someone is taking 100mg of iodine and then stops for awhile or lowers it to 20mg or something, yes once you get up to 100mg again you're going to go through detox again. And in the meantime you may have been exposed to a particular set of chemicals and you have a new detox need entirely, that will have a different affect. Plus, there are layers and layers of chemicals stored in our bodies, and as we give it the iodine that it needs to deport those chemicals away from us, there will be new layers and experiences of detox all along the way. Toxic chemicals are stored in the fat layers of the body (even in skinny people). Those stored chemicals only come back out slowly. In addition, at any point one's liver/gallbladder can need some extra help with detox because of the overall burden that is placed on our bodies, simply by existing in today's world. So the idea that a person's body can't tolerate more than 20mg of iodine per day is simply not a correct description of the truth. The truth is, for whatever reasons, detox is required and those detox symptoms are the ones that a person finds intolerable. So it's not the body, it's the mind's ability to tolerate the body's detox process. I'm not saying the symptoms are all in the mind. I'm saying, our perception of pain and discomfort is what governs how far and how fast we can detox. So everything we do in the iodine protocol is to find a balance between rapid detox and tolerable detox, and the companion nutrients assist the body is detoxing with fewer symptoms. But there are always new chemicals that the body has to process out. Every day. It's entirely possible to be taking 100mg of iodine a day without detox symptoms, if the body's detox pathways are functioning well. It always comes down to, how are the body's detox pathways functioning? Severe symptoms? Those are detox symptoms and the severity is a measure of how well the detox pathways are functioning. Saying one can " overdose " on iodine is buying into the medical/scientific fraud that demonized iodine and has resulted in the epidemics of thyroid disease and cancer, among other ills. It really matters how we conceptualize these matters. Painful symptoms are detox, an indication that one's body needs iodine but is detoxing more quickly than the detox pathways can accommodate. That's when symptoms occur. hope this helps. -- moderator, student since 1976 of alternative health practices >Again, any iodine the body doesn't need gets washed out in our urine. Guest guest
, while the receptors can get blocked again with halides in the system, doesn't a daily higher dose of iodine (and protocol) keep the receptors open and healthy consistently? Thanks, Marcy > > > I've been on iodoral for a month, up to 37.5 mg/day. But ever since I have started I get sharp pains in my thryoid area, and it moves up my neck. Guest guest
Personally, I don't like the word symptoms in reference to de-toxing, i prefer 'side-effects', actually short for 'side effects of large scale detoxing'.A result of too much toxins being released, at too rapid a pace for the detox pathways to handle.Or you could call it 'Detox pathway overload'.When you've got a 20+years or more accumulation of toxins built up, and you start using iodine, its fairly easy to get into this kind of situation, cause you have so much to work with. On the other hand, once you've detoxed this accumulated build up, your daily accumulation is all your having to deal with, so should be easy to keep` yourself cleared, on an ongoing basis, without experiencing 'side effects'.Jim > >> > >> > >> > >> I've been on iodoral for a month, up to 37.5 mg/day. Guest guest
and I would add, try 50mg Iodoral. But ever since I have started I get sharp pains in my thryoid area, and it moves up my neck. Today it feels like a strep throat is starting. Is this normal? Guest guest
I take 100mg Iodoral per day--don't feel well on less.  I think I am experiencing detox symptoms, and I have been on 100mg for several years. But as far as the symptoms go, are you saying that we're never done with the symptoms? How do we know if it's symptoms and not too much iodine? Thank you, Ariel On Thu, May 19, 2011 at 2:40 PM, Donna Iler <Donna@...> wrote:  Those symptoms you got were not overload, they are detoxing. You don’t just detox once and are done, you can continue for long periods of time, or have periodic times of it happening. I suggest you read the new member documents again and especially the section about detoxing. I keep it on my computer and reread it about once a month, there is always more to understand.  Donna in IL   I've already detoxed, I've been on iodine since last Oct.. I went up to 130 mg for months, and detoxed already so then lowered it. i tried it at 130 mg again, and got a sore throat, shortness of breath and other symptoms of iodine overload. No you can't overdose, but you can have too much in your system. At least that's what I have found to be true for myself. Ariel
Guest guest
Thank you everyone. I take everything, but haven't been proactive enough in the salt loading. Did the salt when I was experiencing the acne, headaches, and tiny patches of rash symptoms, I guess I have to do the salt all the time. Guest guest
Detxing can take a really long time, years for some of us. It is particulary difficult to get rid of toxins stored in the fat. The body is protecting itself from the toxins. I've been taking iodine and detoxing for over 5 years and am now finally making progress in losing weight. The liver can make remarkable changes but it's not going to happen in just a few month's time. For those of us with mercury issues it's a long haul. Guest guest
First, I do not dispute the possibility of 'sore throat' being related to detox. It would be interesting to learn the technical process that leads to it though. I noticed this while researching: Acute toxicity Acute iodine poisoning is rare and usually occurs only with doses of many grams. Symptoms of acute iodine poisoning include burning of the mouth, throat, and stomach; fever; nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; a weak pulse; and coma (6). http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/minerals/iodine/ Jeanne > > > > Can someone explain why the throat would hurt as > > a detox response? > > > > Please and thank you, > > > > Jeanne > > >
Guest guest
But if you look up bromide toxicity symptoms you will see sore throat, fever, nausea, diarrhea, heart issues, coma..... These sites do not acknowledge bromide toxicity. Buist, ND Owner Iodine Group Re: Why does my throat hurt? First, I do not dispute the possibility of 'sore throat'being related to detox. Guest guest
I think the 'burning' of the mouth, throat and stomach, from acute iodine O.D. is literal; a 'burning' of the skin, from contact with large amounts of iodine. It doesn't say 'Burning feeling'.I don't think what they are describing is a 'sore' throat. On the other hand, bromide toxicity symptoms include 'sore' throat.I think is right on the $, here.
