Guest guest
Hi Louise and list members, I can't offer you any advice Louise since I'm brand new to this myself. I just wondered if you would share what you read about iodine, and was it written by someone knowledgeable about iodine and the thyroid? I have Graves as well. I had a serious thyroid storm in the early 80's, it was treated conventionally except that I wouldn't let my thyroid be radiated. I stayed on the meds for a year, took myself off of them and my thyroid has been normal until recently. I began having hypOthyroid symtoms about 6 or so months ago ie; weight gain, swollen ankles, non existent eyebrows, hair loss ect. Interestingly, in March my TSH was almost non detectable, TPO waaay high, free t4 normal, t3 was not done. The Endo has diagnosed Graves. I also have SLE. I am stuck with whatever medical care the insurance will pay for so I can't do a naturalpath right now. I don't know how I knew to do this but I began taking iodine 50/ml per drop and selenium when I got the test results. Problem is that I was using just potasium iodide and not nearly enough selenium(200mcg) my multivitamin does have small amounts of B2 B3, iodine, magnesium, selenium and vit C . I have serious financial contraints at the moment but I will purchase all of those things next month. I have been using De Souza's unrefined solar sea salt but I'll get Celtic next month as well. Does anyone know of a good online company to buy everything in one place and avoid a bunch of shipping costs? Here is the dilemma I would like to pick the group brains about. I have a thyroid nodule that has doubled in size over the last 2 yrs. I had a fine needle biopsy 2 weeks ago ( exceedingly painful) The results were that the speciman was primarily blood but the few celss that were available looked normal -benign. The Endo, of course, thinks my entire thyroid or at least the left side where the nodule is should be surgically removed. I would prefer to treat it naturally. I plan to do the iodine + and salt loading. Is this enough to maybe shrink the nodule? Any and all thoughts or ideas from the group would be so very appreciated. Thank you iodine From: s.l-c.o@...Date: Sun, 22 May 2011 09:35:38 -0400Subject: Painful lump in throat Hello,I have been diagnosed with Graves disease for a couple decades now, and recently there is a painful lump in my ( on outside) throat above the thyroid area. It was there for years with no pain but now it has started hurting. I thought since there are so many lymph nodes there that it was probably that because I have had a sinus infection for awhile. I have been taking herbal tinctures for lymph nodes and they do seem to help temporarily but it doesn't get better.I am not taking iodine right now because I read some scary posts one time about it causing people problems so I was afraid to that. Also, with hyperthroidism I didn't think it would be good to increase my metabolism above what the G. does. I have bought the Lugol's and several times have put a drop on my skin to see how quickly it absorbed to see if I was iodine deficient; it disappeared within a couple hours. But I am worried about this little bump and wonder if it could be a thyroid nodule or something similar. I remember years ago when they diagnosed me they held me under a mchine for a very long time with radiation and I always worried if that could cause me problems one day. Guest guest
Hi , I'm not even sure where I read the statements but I think it was this list and I couldn't bring them up again because it's been awhile. But what I think they were referring to was adverse reactions they got from taking the iodine. I don't know how knowledgeable they were; maybe just trying to help themselves and maybe took too much, I can't say. But since I am not knowledgeable myself and don't know how much to take or even to take it at all with Graves, I am afraid to upset my system until I'm sure that I need it. How do you know if you need to take it, firstly, and what conditions would the amount be based on? Your health problem weight, age, sex, et? There was also talk about the various different types/kinds of iodine, which further confused me. Guest guest
Hi Louise and ,Have you read the new member documents? Many of your concerns/questions are addressed there, as are questions about the detoxing process and things you might feel while it is going on. Even if you read them before, I would go back and reread them, then come back with any other questions. I reread them every few months, because I forget different things. It is really helpful. Guest guest
Hey Donna, I think you are confusing my questions with Louise's, I was not asking about detoxing. I'm sorry I should have done my part of the post separate from my answer to Louise. I talked about what was going on with my thyroid and what I planned to do about it. I think I understand the iodine and salt routine and I hoped someone would tell me if my undersatanding was wrong. The questions I asked were 1) If there was a good online site to buy all the necessary things for the iodine protocol and salt loading in one place? From what I can see I'll have to buy things in separate places and I'd like to save the shipping cost and get it all from the same company if posssible. and 2) Did anyone have thoughts on whether the iodine, companion nutrients and salt could possibly shrink a thyroid nodule? I don't see the answer to those questions in the new member documents. I may be wrong, it's an awful lot to take in but I have read the new member documents many times, I usually retain info very well but I am having probs with memory and brain fog at the moment due to thyroid issues I guess. Too, there are some people who just don't understand what they read and need someone to explain to them so I think it's unfair to answer every new person with "did you read the new member documents" it is made clear when you join the group that you need to read them. Thanks for your response iodine From: Donna@...Date: Sun, 22 May 2011 14:56:15 -0500Subject: RE: Painful lump in throat Hi Louise and , Have you read the new member documents? Guest guest
Hi , If you are near a Whole Foods you would be able to buy the unrefined Celtic Sea Salt and the companion nutrients (selenium, magnesium, Vitamin C). However if you have to order online like I do, then I buy the companion nutrients from www.iherb.com They offer free shipping for orders over $40.00. Which is very easy to get to these days. They sometimes carry celtic sea salt and himalayan, you just have to check. If they are out of the unrefined celtic salt, you can google celtic salt, many online stores will come up that offer this. I like the celtic salt from Eden Foods, but everyone has their own preference. Some like Redmond's Salt and some the Himalayan variety. To answer your second question, yes, many have had success in shrinking thyroid nodules using iodine and the companion nutrients. Guest guest
Thanks Kathleen.... I do have to order online. My favorite place is Vitaminlife.com. They are fairly close to me so I get my orders within a few days. They do have the salt and other stuff but not lugols. I'll look at your suggestions, maybe I can at least narrow it down to 2 places. Guest guest
Hi , I use the Eden Brand which is not as coarse as the unrefined Celtic Sea Salt; and I use the unrefined Celtic Sea Salt; I also use Redmond's at times as well. I love them all. As for my Lugol's, I am now using it in tablet form, (Iodoral); I order it from www.breastcancerchoices.org When I order 3 bottles at a time, I get free shipping. I like to order from them because they are non-profit and spread information on alternative answers to breast cancer. My order usually arrives soon after I place it. Too, there are some people who just don't understand what they read and need someone to explain to them so I think it's unfair to answer every new person with "did you read the new member documents" it is made clear when you join the group that you need to read them. Guest guest
The new member documents question has been necessary from time to time, because some people come here in such a panic that they haven't read them, & it really gets old to see the basic questions answered over & over again.I don't know of any single place that carries all the companion nutrients, I'm afraid. Most of us are taking other supplements & shop multiple companies, so that is not a huge issue. Breastcancerchoices.org gives free shipping if you order more than 3 items. (You email their office person, & she sends you a Paypal invoice.) So there would be no shipping on those, if you ordered as much as you could there. The iodine protocol CAN shrink fibroid nodules, but sometimes the thyroid gets larger, briefly, before anything shrinks, & my own nodule has been playing hide & seek with me. Instant success with nodules is not guaranteed.AnneOn May 22, 2011, at 1:27 PM, Girl wrote: Hey Donna, I think you are confusing my questions with Louise's, I was not asking about detoxing. Many of your concerns/questions are addressed there, as are questions about the detoxing process and things you might feel while it is going on. Even if you read them before, I would go back and reread them, then come back with any other questions. I reread them every few months, because I forget different things. It is really helpful. Donna in IL Hi ,I'm not even sure where I read the statements but I think it was this list and I couldn't bring them up again because it's been awhile. There was also talk about the various different types/kinds of iodine, which further confused me.Thanks,LouiseHi Louise and list members,I can't offer you any advice Louise since I'm brand new to this myself. I just wondered if you would share what you read about iodine, and was it written by someone knowledgeable about iodine and the thyroid?I have Graves as well. I am stuck with whatever medical care the insurance will pay for so I can't do a naturalpath right now.I don't know how I knew to do this but I began taking iodine 50/ml per drop and selenium when I got the test results. Problem is that I was using just potasium iodide and not nearly enough selenium(200mcg) my multivitamin does have small amounts of B2 B3, iodine, magnesium, selenium and vit C . I have serious financial contraints at the moment but I will purchase all of those things next month. I have been using De Souza's unrefined solar sea salt but I'll get Celtic next month as well.Does anyone know of a good online company to buy everything in one place and avoid a bunch of shipping costs? Here is the dilemma I would like to pick the group brains about.I have a thyroid nodule that has doubled in size over the last 2 yrs. I had a fine needle biopsy 2 weeks ago ( exceedingly painful) The results were that the speciman was primarily blood but the few celss that were available looked normal -benign.The Endo, of course, thinks my entire thyroid or at least the left side where the nodule is should be surgically removed. I would prefer to treat it naturally. I plan to do the iodine + and salt loading. Is this enough to maybe shrink the nodule?Any and all thoughts or ideas from the group would be so very appreciated.Thank youiodine From: s.l-c.o@...Date: Sun, 22 May 2011 09:35:38 -0400Subject: Painful lump in throatHello,I have been diagnosed with Graves disease for a couple decades now, andrecently there is a painful lump in my ( on outside) throat above thethyroid area. Guest guest
Well everybody on this list is inclined to think that the "scary stuff about iodine" is crap, & most of is would urge you to try it. (Just read up & take all the companion nutrients.)The skin test is not very meaningful, but most people need iodine anyway. If there really is a lymph problem rebounding is worth looking into.AnneOn May 22, 2011, at 6:35 AM, s.l-c.o wrote: Hello, I have been diagnosed with Graves disease for a couple decades now, and recently there is a painful lump in my ( on outside) throat above the thyroid area.
