Many health care professionals and others still believe this today. However, scientific studies are beginning to show that cellulite may not just be regular fat, but may be something that has its own shape and structure and that needs its own solutions. Webster's defines cellulite as a colloquial term for deposits of subcutaneous fat and fibrous tissue that cause a dimpling effect on the overlying skin. These deposits most commonly occur on the thighs and hips of women. Though diet and exercise can diminish cellulite, cellulite is primarily comprised of toxins and fats that accrue in the body. Cellulite can affect men and women of any body weight or size. Recent scientific studies have shown that cellulite is very different from fat. The formation of cellulite fat is the result of bad eating habits or eating foods that are high in calories and fats, a lack of regular exercise, and it tends to worsen with aging. Fat cells grow bigger at the hypodermic level, fluids are retained, connective tissues become compressed and hardened, and blood circulation is impeded. Unnatural tension occurs on the dermis and epidermis. The skin becomes bumpy, uneven and withered — thus the 'orange peel' appearance. This is what makes cellulite different from other fats within the human body. What is the difference between cellulite and fat? Though everyone has a smooth layer of fat, individual amounts depend on weight, lifestyle and genetics. This actual fat layer acts as an insulator for the body and cushions the organs, muscles and nerves. Cellulite, on the other hand, is lumpy and provides no padding whatsoever. It only occurs in certain areas of the human body: the thighs, buttocks, abdomen and breast area. When men get cellulite, it tends to be on the neck and abdomen. Cellulite is that bumpy-looking fat that accumulates around the buttock, abdomen or breast. Cellulite is not necessarily a factor of body weight. You do not have to be heavy to have cellulite. Everyone has some cellulite, somewhere in their body. However, it shows through more on some people than it does others. Though diet and lifestyle affect cellulite formation, cellulite is comprised of dangerous toxins, poisons and fats that build up and remains in the body and can affect women, men, and children of any age, size, weight and body structure. There are new scientific studies that prove that cellulite and fat are two different things. Cellulite is very different from fat in its chemical make-up and requires different solutions. To lose fat, you must eat a proper diet and exercise regularly. To reduce cellulite, you can eat right and exercise regularly, but scientific studies have also shown that cellulite can be eliminated through the use of massage therapy. There are some topical preparations that will help the body effectively eliminate cellulite. Celluthin, available at http://www.bodestore.com , is one such product. It effectively delivers clinically proven aminophylline directly to the area most needed for cellulite reduction. It takes a lot more work and effort to take fat off of the human body than it does to remove cellulite. Cellulite is not simply fat in the body. It is something that has its own structure and requires its own solutions. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Kamau Austin is a health and fitness enthusiast and advocate.
