Often, a woman must excel and produce more than a man in the same position. To do this successfully, she must improve her mental focus and memory. Memory is the capacity in which we are able to recall events and experiences. There are four types of memory and mental focus will help a woman ascend the corporate ladder. There are four main types of memory. Semantic memory can be words and sentence structure; episodic memory is material from the past and can also be known as autobiographical memory, and procedural memory is how you do things such as riding a bike. The fourth type of memory includes both long term memory (LTM) and short term memory (STM). In theory, LTM stores an unlimited amount of information and things within it can be remembered indefinitely; STM, however, is limited and involves remembering just a couple of things for a short time. You would use long term memory to remember making a cake with your grandma and short term memory to remember items on your grocery list. By improving these four types of memory, any woman can get ahead in her career. Semantic memory is the ability to remember and recall words and sentences. This can be improved with practice. Association is the key to improving semantic memory. If you can remember something by associating it with something that you already know or like, you will improve your chances of remembering words and sentences. By improving the semantic memory, a woman is better prepared to give speeches on the job and to recall important information. Procedural memory is also very important for women in the workplace. This type of memory deals with processes. This type of memory can be improved gradually by doing things in a systematic order. Do things in numerical order or sequentially. Practice doing small list of procedures and gradually build to a longer list of procedures. A woman needs to be procedurally smart if she is to be promoted at her place of employment. Good long and short term memories are essential to every woman on the job. She must be able to remember recent and distant facts quickly. Both short term and long term memory can be improved through the use of mental association. By associating something with something else that you already know, you can begin to improve your memory. There are also several vitamins, herbs and other medicines on the market that claim to improve memory. These products usually guarantee results, but don't get your hopes up. These products may increase your memory over time. No two people are alike so, these herbs, vitamins and medicines will work differently with different people. Nature provides nutrients in ample measure, but it can also be helpful to take some supplements that will improve your memory. One such supplement is Neovar. Neovaris an advanced supplement that features clinically proven components that promote a healthy memory and improve neurological functions. Neova helps healthy individuals who are experiencing age-related changes in their memory, focus and overall cognitive abilities. Neovar is available at Amazon and at http://www.BODeStore.com . You should consult with your doctor before taking any memory-enhancing medications or herbs. To advance in today's workforce, women must improve all four types of memory. Women must excel and produce more than men just to get ahead, and one of the best ways to improve workplace performance is to improve memory. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Kamau Austin is a health and fitness enthusiast and advocate.
