Guest guest
More Support for Measles Vaccine The news One of the concerns raised about the measles (MMR) vaccine is that it might be connected with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. A new study from the University of Washington shows that there is no relationship between the MMR vaccine and IBD. At the same time, a report from California gives further confirmation to the lack of connection between autism and MMR. Comment by Loraine Stern, M.D.: Despite the evidence studies such as these provide to the contrary, some parents continue to blame vaccines for various illnesses and conditions. A small, vocal group of parents are pursuing lawsuits against vaccine manufacturers, claiming that the MMR vaccine caused their children's autism. Opponents of immunization seem to turn a deaf ear to scientific information. What frightens those of us committed to children's welfare is that these and other unfounded allegations keep parents from offering their children the safest and most important medical intervention we have for insuring children's health.
