Guest guest
Check the archives the past week. I believe that's when there was a discussion on alternative treatments and of course, consult a homeopath... Are you eating any kind of dairy? My 2nd was intolerant of any dairy I had and spit up a lot among other things. try eliminating these products from your diet...should take about a week to notice an improvement. Also, chiropractors can work seeming miracles... I am not a medical doctor, nor do I portray one on t.v. (but my husband,Mike,is!) While it seems to control the yeast, it has not eliminated the yeast. I really do not want to use the Monistat 7 or even the gentian violet. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to how to eliminate the yeast?

My 9 month old son and I have been dealing with this, off and on, for the entire time. We have now been symptomatic 5 times. We went the Nystatin route...3x (amazing...even tho Nystatin IS antifungal, it is loaded with sugars, to make it more palatable for children. Yeast thrives on sugar!!!); the Diflucan route...2x...the Diflucan cleared the symptoms, but didn't 'cure' us. (BTW, we had 2 rounds of Nystatin, suspension for ds, and creme for me, and 1 round of Diflucan, the first time we had it, and a round of Nystatin, and a round of Diflucan, the second time we had it.) I finally got upset with paying good money, for what doesn't work. I tried the gentian violet...N~A~S~T~Y, messy stuff. I tried the baking soda wash...have to be careful with it, as it can cause mineral imbalances...also have to make a new wash solution daily, to prevent spread of yeast, and reinfection. I have finally found some wonderful herbal remedies, that seem to have worked so far. I use Nature's Sunshine Bifidous Flora Force, 12 capsules a day, to reintroduce good bacteria into my gut. I also wet my nipple with b/m, open a capsule, sprinkle it on my nipple, and have ds nurse, 2x weekly. We also use Nature's Sunshine VS-C, which is a viral immune booster, which has antifungal ingredients. I use the liquid, so I can apply it to my nipples, when neccessary, as it is also useful, topically. We also take quite a bit of powdered vitamin C, too. I do the same with the Vit.C, as I do with the Flora Force, putting it on my nipples. Additionally, garlic KILLS yeast! I know you can purchase garlic that has chlorophyll, so you don't stink, but it's not cheap. However, you get what you pay for!! Another topical thing I do, is the vinegar...however, I use 5% distilled vinegar, non-diluted. Stings a bit, but works quickly, if you're having nipple pain from the thrush. Something that is VERY important, is that if you and baby have thrush/yeast, dh, and other family members, also need to be 'treated' too. You can pretty much bet that if one of you have it, all in the family have it. once symptoms are gone, you must keep treating for 2 weeks after. > > BTW, I don't think that the yeast is in my milk > ducts, but how can I > tell? I have a friend who had to have some ducts removed, due to yeast infection of the ducts...she said what was a first clue for her, was she had a discharge, from her nipples. Since her dd had basically weaned, she really didn't give it much thought, until she was severely sore 5 years later, and started having a brown discharge. That was how SHE found out. Now, I am not CERTAIN, but I DO believe they can check for yeast in the ducts, with an ultrasound of the breast. Also, can the yeast cause my daughter to have > a lot of gas > while nursing and spit up a lot? ABSOLUTELY!! The gas comes from the yeast fermentation, and likely so, the spit up, from an upset tummy, that is common with it too. Guest guest
Consider looking at eliminating sugar from your diet for a while. The candida diet is great for persistent thrush, check out " The Yeast Connection and the Woman " for probably the best info about candida yeast and how it affects our systems. It's the same yeast that causes the thrush. a --- Peggy Burley <burley4@...> wrote: > I need some suggestions and advice from all of you. > I breastfed my > first two daughters with no yeast problems. Guest guest
Hi I am a doula, and one of my clients had the same situation. She tried everything with no success, but the one thing that did work was pure oregano oil rubbed on the baby's feet. Harriet smelled like a pizza, but her yeast went away! The yeast had been chronic and stubborn. She had been dealing with the problem for months. Hope this helps, Conrad
Guest guest
Eliminating sugar is helpful as well. Yeast feeds on dairy and sugar.

Did you know you also have to get rid of yeast in diapers (cloth), cloth nursing pads, clothes, pacifiers, bottle nipples etc.? I add vinegar to the rinse cycle of a wash for the cloth things, and wash in hot. I have been told to boil nipples and paci's and stuff like that in a vinegar solution (which is 1 Tbsp vin. & 1 cup water I think), and put the same solution in a spray bottle and spray all plastic toys (and then wipe them down). Also, wash the soft toys (teddy bears etc.) that she might have chewed on. I was told that the baking soda is no longer considered a good idea because of the high sodium content, which can be hard on the baby's kidneys. Because of this, I opted to do the gentian violet route, which I was told is 3 days MINIMUM, 7 days MAXIMUM, but you have to keep going a MINIMUM of 24 hours after the last symptoms disappear. For us this was 4 days. However, the best thing to do is to avoid sugar and white flour (I absolutely craved doughnuts for a while when yeasty!) and to up the raw fruit and veggies (esp. veggies) as well as take some acidophilous (the live variety, that has to be kept refrigerated). I don't know how old your DD is, but mine is 14 months, and we went through the yeast around 13 months, so she was able to (under supervision) suck on a child's variety of acidophilous pill (cherry flavour). I took 3 of the adult ones (which have something like 19 billion cells per...gram?) 3 times per day. I gather you can't take too much of it, what you don't use gets excreted is all. I think you can get a powdered variety which could be added to expressed milk for a younger baby, if you have any way of getting them to take it (i.e. in a bottle while Mom is out, etc.). The reality of the situation is that we LIVE with yeast all the time...we need it in order to survive, but we don't need so much of it as we have when we " get yeast " which in reality is a yeast OVERGROWTH. So we need to lower the amount of it, but you can never kill it all off. This is why Marie (IBCLC) does not think it is necessary to chuck out all milk pumped during a yeast overgrowth. She says that once you fix the root of the problem (eating less sugar, white flour and alcohol also, more raw veggies, acidophilous etc.) the overgrowth that is in the pumped milk (frozen) is no longer going to be able to " take root " in your body anyhow. She does suggest using it mixed up with some milk that doesn't have overgrowth is all...so maybe if you're leaving a child with 12 oz. during the day at daycare, leave 4 oz that has yeast overgrowh, and 8 that is from either before or after the yeast overgrowth problems were solved. HTH, Fio.

Guest guest
No, none of my children have been vaccinated at all.
