if the label doesn't say the type of vit c, what is it likely to be?

I'm thinking, knowing my luck, its the wrong kind :-)

: Don't use Calcium ascorbate - ever. There are very good reasons why,

: not least of which is how it is metabolised in the body. Calcium

: Ascorbate is a no no. I learned the hard way. Brief description.

: In order to metabolise ascorbate, the Vitamin C needs a sodium ion.

: It splits into two compounds, one of which is used, the other

: excreted. The basic biochemical unit of the cell is the sodium ion.

: If you use calcium ascorbate, the calcium sheers away, and sodium is

: pulled from the nearest cell with it in it. Once the ascorbate is

: split, the first thing it does is to chelate out the calcium, which

: should not be there. Then what you have left, is what is available.

: That is why you rarely get diarrhoea with calcium ascorbate. Because

: you have to use far more of it to do what sodium ascorbate does. So

: how did ester C become supposedly the best. I don't know. I know my

: facts, because Archie Kalokerinos explained them to me, as have a

: couple of biochemists. I needed to know, because when Archie sorted

: out my arthritis after the rubella vaccine, he didn't put a label on

: it. I didn't know what it was. So when I ran out, I went to the

: health shop, and asked for " the best " . Within 9 months, I was in

: deep trouble and rang Archie to ask if this stuff was supposed to

: kill me (had a severe sodium deficiency, which was stuffing my immune

: system even worse than normal!!!). He asked what was on the bottle,

: and when I read out Calcium Ascorbate - well - I'm sure he would have

: boxed my ears if he was in the same room. Just joking. He's very

: calm and gentle, is Archie. Anyway, he explained that I would need

: to salt everything in sight for a while, and never to do it again.

: Hypercalcemia makes cancer cells grow like billie-oh...

:

: Took about 2 weeks to come right.

:

: What is the problem with concentrated powder? We have never used

: anything else. Yes, 4 grams is a level teaspoon. 1 gram is quarter

: of a teaspoon. Great. that means you can hide it in other stuff and

: your little one won't have the foggiest...

:

well, it does say vitamin C but it doesn't say what type of vitamin C

until this discussion, I didn't know there was a right and a wrong type

of vit c

knowing my luck, I have the wrong kind :-)

:

: Dear Kathy,

:

: Rule Number one in life, Ask " What is in " it " ?, Why do you

: say " that " ? Where can I get " what " I want? How do you know what you

: say is correct? Are there any side'effects? Show me that in

: writing.....

:

: Without these, and many other routine questions you could land up

: with plain old salt. So, ask " What is in this bottle? " and if they

: won't tell you... don't you have labelling laws where you are???

:

: cheers

Hey, I already have the other one you sent filed. It was someone else who,

after we had validated the need for sodium ascorbate wrote that they had

heard ascorbate was bad to which I replied it was the CALCIUM not the

SODIUM.. In fact, I just bought 5 bottles of sodium ascorbate Vit C powder

for my f-i-l- we just found out has lymphoma and will be doing the typical

cancer therapy. I had advised someone earlier about the calcium(sounds

better than sodium, doesn't it) and was corrected by your previous

submittal. I asked a health food store and all they had was the calcium as

people don't want the sodium. Maybe I'll print your letter and give it to

them! MAy I?

  • 4 months later...

EGADS Sheri!! So, PLEASE tell me that the $30 I just

spent on a bottle of Vitamin C Ascorbates, which lists

Vitamin C (calcium ascorbate, potassium ascorbate,

magnesium ascorbate) = to 3330% of daily values, isn't

wasted money!! And that it's NOT a definite no-no for

my 14 months old son, myself, and would do better

tossed in the trash??? Waaaaaaah!!!

:o( Please tell me differently!! *Sniff! Sniff!*

~Donna...IL

P.S. Welcome back!! Are you done touring for awhile

now?

You read what she said.

Probably one bottle won't harm - but go for the Sodium Ascorbate

I use powder

ester C is NOT sodium ascorbate - it is calcium ascorbate

http://www.bronsononline.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=18727

& prmenbr=1128 & CGRY_NUM=11841

(I had been using from http://www.iherb.com - but above source is cheaper

and will get from there next)
