Illinois Battles this week - 2 bills

Illinois faces a real test this week, as we have two bills moving to be

heard in the House Human Services Committee this Wednesday, April 25.

SB 1304 will restrict persons from serving on our Illinois Immunization

Advisory Committee who receive funding or have financial investment in

pharmaceutical companies that manufacture vaccines. At this time, it

appears to have an excellent chance of passage and then to the Illinois

House floor. We are already seeking time with the Governor to urge his

signing of the bill.

The same appears to be true with SB 1305, which would prohibit the

Department of Children and Family Services from investigating parents who

have been referred for the sole reason that they have chosen to delay or

refuse mandatory vaccinations based on religious conviction or medical

grounds.

Again, we are very aware that these are incremental steps, but the

conversations with legislators on these " reasonable " issues are allowing us

the opportunity to talk about vaccinations, parent concerns and how to best

serve the public by improving public perception of government health

agencies.

Any connections you have to persons in Illinois concerned about vaccine

issues should be notified about these two pieces of legislation.
