I also noticed you didn't say that *you* believed it was whooping cough =) At any rate, your homeopathy books should give you enough guidance to decide if it is whooping cough or just a really bad cold if you can't get ahold of this homeopath you mentioned. I'll repost an email from a list member that contains some remedies in the chance that it is whooping cough CherylO in Michigan's UP! Guest guest
How old is your son? Do have a naturopath or homeopath nearby? Health food store?? My son had it last summer--(he is almost 7 now)---strangely enough no one else got it. But we survived it, and treated it with no drugs. E-mail me if you want......Good luck! Guest guest
Annette, When my son had it it started out sounding like a bad cold. Since his colds usually hit with a round of croup, or at least a croupy sounding cough, I treated it accordingly--honey/lemon, vaporizor, steamy bathroom to calm cough....the steam was pretty much ineffective, as it is not recommended treatment for pertussis. That was the first clue. Second, it didn't really seem to change. Definitely worse at nite. But the cough went on thru the day. By the second week I was wondering why this 'cold' didnt' seem to be running it's usual course, and I called my naturopath. Took him in for a culture at the end of the second week---had been using echinacea/goldenseal tincture, vitamin C, zinc, Vicks on his chest..all the usual cold remedies we use. Had to go to the hospital--lab to get the culture done, ordered by my Naturopath. The results came back a few days later--negative, but the cough continued. I read, and we were told my our Nat. that we maybe missed the ideal " window " for getting the culture done---it is not 100% accurate anyway, and missing the 'window' throws things off. I was kind of glad that the results said NO, because he would've become a statistic! We do not vaccinate, and of course I had visions of state officials knocking on my door! He never did get real 'sick' with it---just had the annoying cough with the characteristic 'whoop' that seemed to go on forever. We continued the vit C......and by the 4th or 5th week added in a homeopathic cough syrup that loosened up the cough. 3 days on the cough syrup was about what it took to get the cough really loose--which eased him up! We also did mustard packs....he didn't mind it too much, and that helped too. Overall, we pretty much just kept going. The cough was annoying, and I was careful to make sure he wasn't overdoing it as exertion seemed to make him cough more. It was a little hard being in public and he'd cough, and people would stare. I didn't broadcast what I thought he had---told people who questioned that I wasn't sure, and that maybe it was seasonal allergies (although he'd never had them before--I still don't discount that, I guess we will see when summer hits again). Everywhere we went he had a water bottle...and I stayed where I could keep an eye on him....sometimes he'd cough to the point of vomiting! I'd had a friend a few years earlier whose young girls both had pertussis.....lasted for a whole summer.....and she'd told me the same thing--just go day by day, keep treating it, it eventually goes away. Not so passive, but was not dangerous in either of our cases. She also said the cough was mostly just annoying. While my Naturopath still views the culture as possibly correct, I watched my kid cough---3 months/100 days--started the 2nd week of June, and ended just after school resumed (Sept), which was exactly what I'd read about pertussis. He's had about 3 colds since then, with one bout of croup in January, but recover from all has been quicker, and the colds are much less frequent than before---seems like he used to get the croup every-other-month since he was born! I still would rather he got what he got, than have the vax.........and possibly a horrible, life-taxing reaction! I sure hope this is not what your little guy has! Hope he is feeling better soon! Guest guest
Wow! Thanks everyone for your swift responses. I'm printing everything out now. I'll try to quickly answer all questions here. For some reason my emails aren't coming through on the vaccine list, I'm having to retrieve them from the web. First my son is 4. I do not believe it's whopping cough but it is terrible and he does rattle. However, my husband has been sitting with him while I'm doing the research. We gave him Antimonium Tart 30x (2 tablets) That was the remedy recommended for whopping cough and it happens to be one of the few things I have on hand. It's only 7:30 am here, and the nature stores are not yet open. I've got a call in the Sherri and a homeopath in the area, so far I can't reach anyone. Anyone with anything to add can email me directly or call (916) 961- 2139. I do not have aol instant messenger. I do have messenger TweetAnnette is my ID Thank you all for your help. Guest guest
I remember my parents and doctor thinking I had it several times when I was young. I never actually had it though. Mom bundled me up in bed, gave me lots of clear fluids and I ate a LOT of soup. When my children start coming down with the same cough I did I give them apple cider vinegar/honey/lemon juice in equal parts. Tastes pretty bad, unless you cut down the apple cider vinegar a little, but it has been very effective in our house. Because it contains no drugs they can take it anytime they start coughing. Hope he feels better soon. Cheryl Whopping Cough? Anyone online now? Help! My husband is convinced my son has whopping cough. He sounds terrible. I don't have a homeopath and couldn't get an answer with the one I called. Does anyone know what to do? We are non vacc'ers. Call and find one of the homeopaths on the list. But you have only said he sounds bad - tell me other symptoms. If he just sounds bad, that isn't enough to prescribe on. Thre is something going around (if you believe in that) and it is characterized by a terrible cough. -------------------------------------------------------- Sheri Nakken, R.N., MA Vaccination Information & Choice Network, Nevada City CA & UK 530-478-1242 Voicemail http://www.nccn.net/~wwithin/vaccine.htm " All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men ( & women) do nothing " ...Edmund Burke ANY INFO OBTAINED HERE NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS MEDICAL OR LEGAL ADVICE. Guest guest
Dear Sheri, Thanks for the call. He sounds hoarse right now and tight in the chest. The coughing was much worse in the early morning hours. In fact he woke up yesterday morning coughing (not nearly so forceful) until he vomited. He is dry though, no runny nose, not coughing up anything. The vomit contains muchus, I wasn't right there, my husband was, but Zachary said it was green. When asked how he feels, he says fine. He was terribly warm to the touch earlier this morning. The fever is now gone. In the last hour he has started sneezing regularly. I hope that answers your question. When my husband wakes up I'll try to get more infor. I'm worried about tomorrow morning now. As long as he is drinking and peeing that is great. And if he says he is fine, believe him. > >I hope that answers your question. When my husband wakes up I'll try >to get more infor. I'm worried about tomorrow morning now. He may be over it. If not, use the Antinomonium again in water as I said but only if he gets worse again or seems stuck -------------------------------------------------------- Sheri Nakken, R.N., MA Vaccination Information & Choice Network, Nevada City CA & UK 530-478-1242 Voicemail http://www.nccn.net/~wwithin/vaccine.htm " All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men ( & women) do nothing " ...Edmund Burke ANY INFO OBTAINED HERE NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS MEDICAL OR LEGAL ADVICE.
