THis is ridiculous attempt at intimidation! If you find another doc, great. If not, don't sweat it- well baby checks are ONLY needed to get vaxed. A parent is quite capable of telling whether or not their child is growing well and there are FAR BETTER places to go to get parenting advice than from a ped! LOL It is NOT against the law to not vax. Exemptions are only needed for school. >> Unfortunately, I do not believe this is the case in all states. In VA for example, parents are required by law to vaccinate their children for certain diseases before the age of 1 unless they have a religious or medical exemption. It's vital therefore to know the law before you start dealing with doctors, schools etc. needs to find out ALL the laws relating to vaccination in her state. (The WASHLAW website is useful for this but may not have the most up to date information.)

If you are able to find a link to this law, please do send it in so we can all learn something new. Until then, I firmly stand behind my statement that vaccines are only " mandatory " for schooling/ day care purposes and that exemptions are only needed for that. THe CDC also only speaks of recommendations up until school age. <<It's vital therefore to know the law before you start dealing with doctors, schools etc. needs to find out ALL the laws relating to vaccination in her state. >> ** I absolutely agree which is in the links I provided to her in my earlier post. Guest guest
I have a copy of the Vaccine Laws of Virginia from New Atlantean Press. Section 32.1-46 states: " A. The parent, guardian or person standing in loco parentis of each child within this Commonwealth shall cause such child to be immunized by vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and poliomyelitis before each child achieves the age of one year, against Haemophilus influenzae type b before he attains the age of 30 months, and against measles (rubeola), German measles (Rubella) and mumps before such child attains the age of two years. " I believe I was also able to access this statue on the Washlaw website (at the moment it is not responding). I'm pretty sure the version on the Washlaw website mentioned that the provisions applied even if the child was homeschooled or out of school because of illness. If anyone knows of any revisions which which revoke this statute please let me know.

" > > At thinktwice.com (ie.,New Atlantean Press) under the section " Mandatory Vaccines " they answered a question from a woman with an 11m old *from Virginia* who did not want her DD to recieve anymore vaxs at her upcoming 1 yr appointment. She expressed concern about getting an exemption. THey emphatically responded that it was not mandatory for an 11 m old to be vaccinated and that she didn't have to take any bull from the Dr. THey said that the exemption would be needed for school, but not until then. <A HREF= " http://thinktwice.com/mandate.htm " > Immunizations are NOT Mandatory -- Thinktwice.com</A> So, based <somewhat> on this conflicted info, but moreso on the Virginia Health Dept, I'd surmise this statute has either been revoked or is just ignored. However, I would hate to think I (and others) are advising people wrongly concerning exemptions only needed for school/ nonvax is legal in ALL states, so I will be calling NVIC on Monday to get the lowdown. Guest guest
>In VA for example, parents are required by law to vaccinate their children >for certain diseases before the age of 1 unless they have a religious or >medical exemption. Hi all! We live in VA and our ped never brought this up. When the subject of Vaccines came up we said we're not vaccinating. We just had to intial a sheet of paper that had a list of the vaccines that we didin't want- which was ALL of them!LOL. Our ped never gave it a second thought.
