2 Adult autistic persons & need contacts with people who have more than one child with autism

Hi all,

Today I spent 5 hours with a wonderful husband and wife in South Wales.

They have 2 adult children who are in their 30's who have autism following

DPT vaccines received in the 60's as infants. There 'acquired' autism came

on the heels of these vaccines.

First the one boy and then doctors wouldn't agree it was the vaccines and

parents really weren't sure and doctors said it wouldn't happen a second

time and voila - it did. What these parents have gone thru many of you

know, but imagine going thru it in the 60's with NO support, no knowledge

of others, no internet, nothing! This poor mom was in the house with the

boys their whole childhood and teen years - the boys NEVER WERE able to

talk or respond. There was head banging and chaos. She could do nothing.

One later developed a severe seizure disorder. At this point they are in

institutions. It was heart wrenching. The effects on the husband and wife

can still be seen . They lost their lives as well as their children losing

theirs.

What I need is for any of you to contact me if you have more than 1 child

with autism (anywhere in the spectrum). Please contact me with a summary

of your story. These parents have been told that it just doesn't happen in

families - but it did - in theirs. And in many of yours!
