Guest guest
hi alicia, welcome to the list--i'm glad you found it. there is lots of support and advice here--probably more than you'll want or need--LOL!! i do understand your fears, it's what we've been taught to feel, but just keep in mind that even if you were to inoculate your children, it doesn't mean they won't get the disease that they are vaxed for...vaccinated children DO still get these very diseases!! also, keep in mind that almost all children who do contract childhood diseases fare just fine and get through them without any medical intervention (that's the best way to go through these diseases--just keep 'em home and let them heal themselves, the way their bodies are supposed to), of course there are some exceptions, but that's what they tell you when you kid has a reaction to a vax--"sorry, but there is always the possibility of an adverse reaction". as far as the confrontation goes, don't go through it--either skip well care visits, or find a dr, who is ok with your decision (while you are looking for a sympathetic doc, just tell your current dr that you just delaying vaxes until they are a little older and stronger), i recently found a DO (instead of an MD, try to look for a family practitioner who is a DO--doctor of osteopathy--pretty much the same as a MD, but a little more holistic in their approach to medicine.), there should be some DO's listed in you provider information if you use an HMO. also, family practitioners are a better way to go instead of a regular ped., as they wont care so much if you don't vax--it's not their bread and butter... good luck and again, welcome to the list! brigit in albany, ny
Guest guest
Hello! My name is , I'm 28 and very happily married, a mother of 2 children and we have decided to not or to very selectively give vaccines. My son received his first " normal " baby-well vaccines up until the age 4 months, after reacting from them (I think) by screaming and waking up every hour on the hour for 2 weeks we began to look into vaccines. He is 3 years old now and we are battling the decision to do the measles, dtab and Hib. My daughter hasn't had anything, not even eye drops... the ONLY invasive thing we did was the PKU test. She is now 1 year and we are being pressured for the above 3 vaccines. The measles has me scared due to the ER show (stupid, I know) and the recent break outs in our area (Washington). Just yesterday I thought I saw a red rash appearing on his face (he's been sick for about a week) and I FREAKED out. Yet, at the same time couldn't say " Yes " to the vaccine. The rash (I think) was just some broken blood vessels by his eyes (very small) from coughing so much lately. We were at the Allergy & Asthma Clinic when I noticed this and CASUALLY pointed out the redness to the Dr. and she brushed it off. There is no redness today. I think my biggest fear (besides the obvious complications like pnemonia & encephalitis) is confrontation... I'm NOT good at confrontation, which is why I love the computer! I can be a little more " normal " here. ) I mean, when I think about how Chicken Pox is being made into a this terrifying & deadly disease... how many other diseases are made out to be worse than they really are? Sure, complications can happen, but they can happen with ANYTHING. Anyhow, just looking for some support & advice. Please let me know if there is any more information you need. Thank you,
