Vaccine damaged older child

I joined this list for my own info because I'm expecting in Sept. But I have a question about a friend of mine.

I just discovered that a couple we know at church have an older boy (about 10 years old) that was damaged by the Pertussis vaccine as a baby. They said his leg swelled up huge and he screamed for 48 hours after the shot. They said he's never been the same since.

He has some learning disabilities and has some issues with social skills and is just "different". It's hard to describe really.

I've read some of ya'lls posts about homeopathic remedies for vaccine injuries. Do you think that anything would be effective *now*...8 years later? Or is the damage permanent at this point? Have any of you experienced improvement in a situation like this?
