Guest guest
Sandy, you are a strong women and I admire what you have done for your babies and what you have done/are doing for every breast-feeding women as they are often ridiculed for doing the best thing a mother can for their child. Guest guest
Sandy, You nursed your kids till they were 4 and 6? Wow! I applaud you! That is great. Max is breastfeeding still and he is 10 months old. I intend to go as long as possible. When he was 4 mos old I was in our local Walmart and a young girl (about 13 yrs old) and her baby (yes, a child at 13!) stopped and talked with me for a bit. She asked Max's age and then commented on how big he was. (19 lbs at 4 mos, 26 lbs at 9 mos) I told her that he was still breastfeeding and she just made a face and said, " You're STILL breastfeeding? " I wanted to slap her, but you know, I just had to remind myself that most likely her mother never taught her that breast is best and what else was she teaching (or not teaching) her daughter? It was sad. Side note: I know several formula fed babies who weigh just as much as Max, so I hope no-one thinks I'm bashing formula feeders. I'm not. ~ --- Sandy Mintz <sandym@...> wrote: > For those of you new to the list (I apologize to those who have heard > this > before), I nursed my first son until he was four and the second until > he was > six. Guest guest
It is hard. I'll never forget a letter to the editor where someone complained about a baby nursing at a restaurant, saying the mom should take him/her to the bathroom to nurse. I never did respond, but wish I had, to say the mom should do that when he was willing to eat his meals in the bathroom! Guest guest
My babies were solely breast-fed for 8 months when I slowly introduced new tastes but they were tiny. They never had that chubby baby look. They were healthy though.. never got sick. When I asked my midwife why she said it was because formula fed babies were heavy due to being overfed and the content. I have seen tons of BIG CHUNK babies (Adorable) that were completely breast-fed. My son used to nurse all night long. Anybody know about this? My husband is 6'4 " and thin built and I am 5'5 " and medium built (Actually, I'm big boned ... ha ha (smile)). Guest guest
Sandy, I hear you! I bf Max whenever and wherever he's hungry! Recently I was at a bowling alley and he was hungry, so I started to nurse. (I don't use covers because he yanks them off and I end up showing more than if I hadn't used a cover in the first place.) My friend (also a bf'ing mom!!!) was flabbergasted that I was nursing right there and she said, " You're nursing him HERE?! " I told her yes and that it's perfectly natural and I won't hide. And if anyone has anything to say about it, I'll give them an earful. Then I added, " But not my friends " because I didn't want her to think I was getting on her about it. She was rude right back at me, but I let it go. What can you do, right? I'm legally protected AGAINST that trash here in Texas. I expect it from strangers, yet I get it from a friend... Oh well. ~ --- Sandy Mintz <sandym@...> wrote: > It is hard. Guest guest
Good for you, . I never can get over how everything is so breast oriented in this culture, but it's all meant for sexual consumption. Anything as sweet and natural (and what they were made for, after all) as nursing, and people go crazy. Oh well is right. Guest guest
Margaret, isn't it funny how different babies are? Maxwell is completely breastfed (only recently have we begun solids) and like I said in an earlier post, he's 26 pounds of chunk. (Real cute, too. hehe ) I know a little girl who was solely bf till she was 2 but she's as thin as a rail. Healthy, healthy girl. Non-vaxed, homeopathically treated. She's 4 and weighs less than Max. Real petite thing, but both her parents are thin and tall. My mom's side of the family is short. Nobody over 5'10 " except her half-brother. (Family of 7) My dad's side has all tall people. Nobody under 6' except 1 sister. The other sister is 6'2 " . My husband's family is all taller than 5'7 " , I am 5'4 " . Ok, that was long-winded! ~ --- margaret.white@... wrote: > > My babies were solely breast-fed for 8 months when I slowly > introduced new > tastes but they were tiny. Guest guest
I'm not trying to start anything, just need to disagree with your midwife. Both of my kids were formula fed. Baby #1 would have nothing to do with it. We tried for two months. More people saw and touched my boobs trying to help, she just wouldn't do it. Still can't figure that one out. Anyway, she was always thin, only had a chubby period of about a month and is a toothpick today. It's so hard to find her pants that will stay up. Even with the slim pants she still needs a belt and most of her leggings fall down, too. I wish I had those problems, lol. Now, baby #2 is HUGE! So different from the first. Emma nursed for about six weeks and two of those I had to pump and dump. I wound up in the ER at 5 days post partum because of a uterine infection. Turns out part of the placenta was still in there. Oh man, the pills they gave me to get it out were horrible. She had awful reflux and nursing turned into screaming every time. It wasn't doing any of us any good having such tension and I have another daughter that needed some of mommy's attention. Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's the child, they are all made differently. Emma actually eats less then Jennafer did and always has and she is already over 4 pounds heavier then Jennafer was at 1 year. Emma weighed in at 23 pounds (and 28 inches) on January 25. Sorry for the ramble....... Robin D --- margaret.white@... wrote: > > My babies were solely breast-fed for 8 months when I slowly introduced > new > tastes but they were tiny.
