The only kinds I've seen are Weleda and Toms Of maine (which that one has flouride)... But I will check another HFS that I know of. But is there any stores online that sell stuff like that just incase I can't find in the few select health food stores we have here in Louisville?

Yeah, when she used her brush tonight I was thinking even though no paste was on it, it was better than not cleaning them at all and at least she's showing interest now! I was worried there for awhile because she always hated the brush. The more she watches us brush, the more she wants to brush.

on my youngest (15 months old) teeth, i use First Teeth baby toothpaste--natural enzyme toothpaste. it's fluoride free and has no abrasives, no saccharin or added sugars (it's flavored with real apple-bana flavor), no preservatives and no foaming soaps.

the active ingredients are: Lactoperoxidase, lactoferrin, lysozyme (which is an enzyme that helps balance the natural antibacterial system in saliva). it seemed to be the most gentle, non toxic one available when i was checking around as to what to use...

my older son (6 years old) uses tom's of maine--fluoride free--the gingermint flavor and likes it very much.

i used to buy them online through mothernature.com, but they just folded, so maybe you could try to find another health-related type of internet grocer--maybe someone here knows of one.

i thought the sodium lauryl sulfate in tom's was ok as it is a naturally occuring byproduct from coconut oil--does anyone know??!!

there are several fluoride free tom's--maybe not in your regular grocery store, but i'm sure any health food store would carry several. there are also a couple of other brands that do not contain flouride...

We only shop at health food stores and as far as I know there are only a handful here in Louisville and none carry any fluoride free Tom's =( Only 2 flavors at our closest HFS and they have fluoride. I only wish they carried a better selection. Maybe it has to do with the awful state we live in. =\

Okay, there are many, many non-fluoride toothpastes out there for kids, including Tom's. We tend to stick with Nature's Gate Cherry... Go here to find the different brands you can use Life's Vigor Vitamins Herbs Supplements

Their prices are usually much lower than our co-op, and I generally buy bulk... I buy 4 toothpastes at a time, along with whatever else I need.

Welede Children's Tooth Gel is awesome - not spicey like the mint ones,

according to Maya (our 5yo) - it has no fluoride, no sugar, and no sodium

lauryl sulfate. We get ours at the co-op. HTH!

Spencer likes the Animal Parade kind better than the Weleda, and it's easier

Yeah, Spencer takes their vits too... the multi's and the C's - he really

likes them, I think that's why he likes the toothpaste better. I'll grab the

tube and check the ingredients next time I'm upstairs (and send it to the MWM

list).

My son (21 months) has been using Toms of Maine since he cut his first tooth (all different flavors, nonfluoridated). Weleda does make toothpaste, I'm sure without fluoride, but I've never tried it. How about not using toothpaste at all, if you can't find any she doesn't like. It's more the brushing than anything else that keeps them clean...and maybe try an electric toothbrush...my son adores his, and will sit there for 10-12 minutes brushing...

I don't know, there are 2 here in Louisville and they are WAY out from where we are. We live about 15 minutes from Health and Harvest and that is the closest one to us after Amazing Grace (which they are small and have ahrdly anything) but I guess this weekend it wouldn't be too much to drive way out there to look. =)

Ours don't but I'm looking for one maybe on the other end of twon that carries it. Thanks!

SLS is sodium laurel sulfate

I would try an electric toothbrush but it'd probably scare the peepers out of mine! LOL she was scared of the bath hand puppet we bought her!

Hi Hope, Isn't the big Rainbow Blossom carrying non-fluoridated

Tom's??!! That's lame if they don't. I buy the bodycare for Good Foods

Co-op here in Lexington and we have like 6 or 7 flavors of

non-fluoridated Tom's (plus the Weleda Kid's, Calendula, and Pink w/

Myrrh.) I'd be happy to MAIL them to you if you have no luck in

Louisville - and, yes, KY is a very difficult place to find " natural "

products! (that's why I work where I do *lol*)

And maybe try the electric toothbrush...they make them in kids styles (including Barbie) and they do a really good job of brushing, because the kids only have to move it around their mouth. They also have such fun turning it on and off...
