Guest guest
Again, I am on this list for vax info too. There are two other lists for off topic stuff - momswithminds and famnatliv both at egroups. The other stuff is great occasionally, but I need the vax info. I also belong to the other two lists mentioned.

Guest guest
We all know how to email privately too. People are leaving the list that come here just to get vaccine information and that give good vaccine information. Why is that such a difficult concept to grasp, the purpose of this list is vaccines, delete button or not, keep stupid OT discussions private!!!! AND more and more nonsence emails Since I got busy working for a change, my box piled up. But, I'll tell you what, this message is the one that got me. Really insulting, and beneath even my 3 year old's maturity level. I have to say, that if this is the pervaying attitude (I don't believe it is), then this is not the place for me. I don't come here to get flamed by people who are close-minded and rude. The message in it's entirety was unnecessarily harsh. I believe that, whereas we all joined this group for the main ingredient, vaccines, many of us are benefitting from the TANGENT topics. Those topics, as someone wrote earlier, are very MUCH a part of the vaccine issue for those parents who choose to refrain from immunizing their children. We are directed, by virtue of the close-minded allopathic reality of this country, to search and! seek ways to live our lives as best we can, and that includes caring for our children IN ALL AREAS OF HEALTH. In many instances, a parent comes to this list not knowing where else to turn. To use such language looks to me, whether intentionally or not, to be an attempt to get rid of them by making them feel stupid or out of place. I am already on two heavy volume lists. This one, and one for APRAXIA, a very real and devastating disorder my son has. It takes a lot of concentration and effort to peel through the list and pick those topics I want to pursue. Some days I delete all the apraxia issues, helped by the fact that they are labeled as such. Some days I dump the vaccine. If I had two more (or god forbid more) topics to add to my already burdened eyesight (we're moving on to bi-foculs here), I'd go insane. I myself prefer the laid back attitude, and general open-mindedness! , and mostly the vast knowledge base of this group. I have little time for nastiness, and if that's what I'm going to get when I open up mail, then I'll be deleting a lot more of these posts in the future, and eventually dropping off. PS. By the time the 15th email was received, my son would have apologized for breaking the guidelines (without being told, I might add)... Just a thought... The only way I know of to stop this is to WRITE an email, as opposed to replying to one. Which is about 25 keystrokes more than my laziness can handle. If there is another way, I'd like to learn it. I also don't like that there are "attachments" or something of some sort that get passed down the line, and every time I click on an email with one I have to answer security questions about whether I know the poster or not. These transfer to each reply after the initial post. cbp

Guest guest
I wish people would stop taking things so personally here. We have a group of people who all originally signed up with this group to discuss vaccinations. There have been a number of people in this group who have asked off-topic discussions generating lots of emails. Because of the number of these emails, some of the people who joined the group based on the group's purported reason for existence have left. To be fair, I think we should be asking ourselves if there is any way to avoid losing those people. It doesn't make the points raised off-topic not worth discussing or unimportant, but it does raise the question of how to characterize this group, and whether or not a vaccination-only discussion group should be formed. What do you think? Guest guest
I'm feeling a bit like a broken record here. But it seems to me we could have the best of both worlds if we formed two groups with the same people. Those who want to be on both groups would say so. And those who want to be only on the vaccination group would indicate that. We wouldn't need to get to know another new group. When people signed up with the group, they would have the option of joining both at first, or one or the other (although it would likely be the vaccination group first, since that is the draw). Then they could decide at any timeif they wanted to be part of the other group as well. It is easy to tell people to just delete, but instead, they are deleting us. The question are, do we want to lose those people and do we have to lose those people? I, for one, at this point, would prefer to be on two groups, rather than lose people concerned about vaccinations. Guest guest
Reminder (As I add fuel to the fire): It is also helpful, especially to those who are on digest, where it takes three days for it to download, for everyone to cut and paste and remove all of the unnecesary previous posts when responding. It sometimes takes a long time and a lot of space when each email contains all of the previous emails, repeated. Boy, did I just waste a lot of space saying all of that?!? My husband's music trading group has a rule that if you are going to post something OT, you have to pay a " Wasted Bandwidth Tax " which means you have to give away a free CD or something. Too bad that wouldn't work here. What would we offer, a free shot maybe?? Guest guest
i have a suggestion. it is very difficult to stick to one topic when children are involved. what if an OT is put on the list but the responses are made NOT to the list but to the person. Just don't hit reply. Compose a new message with the person's email address. if there is interest by another of that topic they can ask the original person what suggestions etc came up. we have to learn to cut and paste rather than hit reply and all will be happy. my 2 cents. rhoda Re: concerning Off Topic stuff >well, i am sorry - i am the one who posted for the rice milk info. this is >the only source i knew of where i could get the info i needed. i was >turning up blanks in my attempts to search the web. > >i will no longer post anything OT here. and no offense, but i dont think >the health of my son is NONSENSE. maybe this isnt the place for me either. > >and thanks to all who did reply to my rice milk post. i will be making my >own rice milk now! > >tammy, mom to noah > Re: concerning Off Topic stuff >> >> >> > >> > In a message dated 1/9/01 13:54:43 Uhr, LSRandKCR@... writes: >> > >> > << Again, I am on this list for vax info too. >> >> > >> > We all have delete buttons. Guest guest
Is this really that big of deal? Most of the people complaining have a response to an OT post. I think most people on this list are comfortable with it being an alternative medicine mothering and fathering group. The OT posts don't bother me. Good luck
Guest guest
I agree with it too! And I too feel that rudeness should not have a place here, but then everywhere is white and black so maybe we have to accept it as a fact and can't keep it away completely. I guess I will ignore rude e-mails from now on and just read the helpful ones or those asking for help. I think this is a wonderful group and I will not let myself be chased away from it by reading some e-mails that are really OFF. Not only off topic, which I personally don't mind at all, because it just helps me to broaden my perspective and knowledge or allows me to share some of my experience and maybe give some help, but simply OFF. We should not treat each other with disrespect, we are all here to learn and share and I would like to think that we are here for each other in case of need too. I know that we sometimes have too many things going on in our lives and that we can get grumpy and very rude, but maybe we can try not to let it influence our group-life here. I would not mind splitting up this group but I doubt that it would really work out. OT would again seep in sooner or later and rudeness would again start?! I don't want to see anyone leaving because we sometimes behave like children, I truely believe that the way we communicate with each other puts more of us off than the amount of OT stuff. a Re: concerning Off Topic stuff In a message dated 1/9/2001 8:11:32 PM Pacific Standard Time, beebemcel@... writes: Just to reinterate, I LOVE a lot of the off topic subjects. Guest guest
That is exactly the reason why I don't like all this negativity about OT. People need help and sometimes this list is the only place they can turn to. Shouldn't we just be there for them? Shouldn't we just be there for each other and help when help is needed? a. > well, i am sorry - i am the one who posted for the rice milk info. this is > the only source i knew of where i could get the info i needed. i was > turning up blanks in my attempts to search the web.
