Hi Everyone,

This is the fourth time I've posted this but for some reason it does not appear

but just disappears into the ether -Help.

Bit late now to write everything but will try!

been to my docs and got print out of results. It wasn't the most pleasant

experience after all he had asked me to see him....then complained about me

taking up patient clinic times....Anyway he isn't happy with my liver/redblood

test results -they are once again out of sync. Does anyone know would this

affect the conversion of T4-T3? Just wondering if that is why i am tired!

Despite my best request he only did the TSH (0.02) and the FT4 (24.5 -just above

range) so said I was over prescribed (the opposite of what he said last time

when he was assessing me clinically -sigh - & he had on my last visit a week ago

told me I was mad because I had reduced my dose of Erfa by 1/2grain due to the

hot weather). Also said I'd failed the random plasma glucose test -which when I

checked later on I hadn't -infact was well within the labs reference range.

Upshot was he won't do the B12 (something else he didn't do!) until he repeats

the liver and glucose fasting in two months due to cost ( & me taking time up in

his clinic -perhaps I should stage a sit in?) Budget defo taking precedence over

my well being....

Any thoughts on the test results plus ideas on a way forward I'd be most

grateful for :) -am stuck!

Hi ange,

Sorry the cyberspace has robbed you.

Sorry too your experience with your doc was not pleasant.

Tell your doc next time that if he listened to you instead of being so rude, then you wouldnt HAVE to keep 'WASTING' his time and further HE wouldnt keep WASTING YOURS either! Rude man. Why is this man a doctor at all?...well we all know the answer is they get paid too much and they dont even have to do their job properly, they dont have to find their clients and they can be rude to their clients tuboot.

So your reslts. They dont look too bad to me to be honest. Unless someelse wants to say otherwise.

Personally you dont want more iron or anything like that. You HB is very high...even posibly too high....too high can interfer with your thyroid hormone and the body's take up of the same. So yes to your question it does affect thyroid hormone. Upshot was he won't do the B12 (something else he didn't do!) until he repeats the liver and glucose fasting in two months due to cost

Your Red blood cells are also high...so you probably dont need any more B12 supplement either. (I would though advise you use HCL supplement to ensure you continue to absorb naturally your dietary intake. It will also help with other potential or actual gastric issues). However did he give you abreakdown of what your RBC look like? i.e are they of normal size?

Anyway he isn't happy with my liver/redblood test results -they are once again out of sync. Does anyone know would this affect the conversion of T4-T3? Just wondering if that is why i am tired!

However your level is high and so this SHOULD NOT impact on you feeling tired. Indeed you should feel quite boistrous...if only you didnt have a thyroid problem.

Despite my best request he only did the TSH (0.02) and the FT4 (24.5 -just above range) so said I was over prescribed (the opposite of what he said last time when he was assessing me clinically -sigh - & he had on my last visit a week ago told me I was mad because I had reduced my dose of Erfa by 1/2grain due to the hot weather).

You say you reduced your ERFA....why? because of the hot weather? Were you feeling HYPERthyroid previously before you reduced it? It would seem sensible to assume it could be the thyroid hormone supplement isnt adequate....but............

......Yes your TSH and FT4 look good BUT until he does the FT3 ad the rT£ how will he know what is happening at the cellular level? I think he needs to be challenged on that one...AGAIN?

Aww thanks Sally,

It was a bit frustrating but then again a string of simular emails may

appear!!!!! Sorry in advance to anyone who finds this and seems to be reading

several repeats.

Hmm i agree with you Sally -my bloods don't look bad -though my mother has a

high red blood count and has to take medication to lower it (her bone marrow is

overactive) and her condtion is hereditary so the doc worried me when he

expressed concern. High red blood ocunt certainly doesn't make me zing, i wish

it did -but then I know the liver results which are turely out would account for

the tiredness. Sometimes I feel dizzy, unfocused, no appetite and my memory is

shocking! The rest of the tests were all within range so didn't bother putting

them up.

I was right to lower the Erfa -i did feel a little hyper - a bit skaky and my

stools were a little loose. Nothing much but once you have been there you learn

to prempt! Am quite chuffed actually that the blood test of FT4 confirmed i was

right. :) May be the doc won't think I'm crazy now for lowering it in hot

weather.....he thought that was a nutty thing to do!

Anyway maybe this is just a plain case of being obese -fatty liver -come the

summer holidays after my trip to germany am settling my self to the HGC diet

-and my goodnesss i sure do need it! Am going to a wedding this weekend and

hoping to evade any photos!

The new doc's attitude is rubbish -your comments made me laugh -thanks! Then

again at least he is prescrbing on the NHS Erfa.. So will just have to bite my

tongue and sort it out for myself -as usual! A friend of mine said her practise

is really lovely and why don't I join there -but i have only just changed

practise so don't think i can change again so soon! But it is tempting!!!

I would change like a shot Ange.

Go for an informal visit to your friends practice...dump that rude man.

Having this kind of liver problem is associated with thyroid dysfunction. I have a terrible memory but are you supporting your adrenals and sure you dont have yeast? Was your mum hypot? What is your Blood pressure like when you feel dizzy...what happens if you take salty water drink and additional watr at that point?

Have you ever felt well on your dose of ERFA?Well some time really concentrating on good eating is not a bad idea for any of us...remember to drink plenty of water too.You can feel better than this Ange. Its just a case of eliminating things and working it out. You dont take B12 or Iron sups do you?

Any thoughts on the test results plus ideas on a way forward I'd be mostgrateful for :) -am stuck!Serum Ferritin levle: 173ug/L (30.00-400) no meed for me to supplement?serum alkaline phosphatase level: 153iu/L (30-130) above rangeAL|T/SGPT serum level: 66iu/L (<=33.0) above rangeHaemoglobin concentration: 15.00g/dl (11.0-14.7) above rangeRed blood count: 5.34 10*12/L (3.62-4.78) above rangeHaematocrit: 0.44L/L (0.32-0.43) above rangeHi Ange,

Reading your mail I am a little confused about its title - calcium supplements and iron absorption – do you take calcium supplements? And if so, why? - - - Contrary to common belief, supplementation of calcium is rarely necessary (but D3 supplementation is) ...

http://www.calciumlie.net/2008/08/osteoporosis.html

extract: Bones are made of at least 12 different minerals, not just calcium - and excess calcium and a lack of other essential minerals can actually lead to an increased risk of fractures. Calcium hardens concrete, not bones. Excess calcium in our bodies has huge metabolic effects leading to a whole host of medical problems.

...... and I wonder if calcium supplementation might be at the root of your problem. – Your ALP (alkaline phosphatase) is elevated... not by much, but it shows that there is a potential problem with your bones and – since your liver enzymes are also elevated – there is a problem with your liver function too.

http://www.drkaslow.com/html/alkaline_phosphatase.html

extract: In addition to liver, bile duct, or gallbladder dysfunction, an elevated serum alkaline phosphatase can be due to rapid growth of bone since it is produced by bone-forming cells called osteoblasts. One would expect that growing children have higher levels than full-grown adults. The relationship of alkalinity to bone development warrants further discussion because it plays a major role in the prevention and reversal of osteoporosis. Just as calcium builds up around faucets, so is calcium laid down into bone. The reason the calcium deposits on your faucet is because the water is alkaline and calcium comes out of solution and crystallizes in an alkaline environment. The reverse is also true, "Lime -Away", vinegar, or any other acidic solution dissolve the calcium deposits because they are acidic. It makes sense that osteoblasts by creating a local environment of alkalinity via alkaline phosphatase helps build bone. It also implies that in order to slow bone loss, one cannot be in an acidic state.

...... I am just guessing, but is it possible that you have been overdoing the calcium supplementation? That might account for your out-of-balance blood results. It all hangs together as RBCs are produced by bone marrow.... – oh, and yes, thyroid hormone helps to build RBC's as well, so your high FT4 is likely to be responsible for your over the top red blood cell count, haematocrit and haemoglobin concentration.

Your ferritin is on the high side.... high ferritin can indicate inflammation and I wonder if your liver is the culprit for that...

I would recommend for you to first of all take a course of Milk thistle for a couple of months or so to detox your liver,.... and perhaps check the parathyroid hormone too (PTH) as it is the parathyroid glands which control the calcium levels. If you are taking calcium supps, then it might be an idea to have your levels checked to see if you really need it. You also need a Vit D3 check. If your calcium levels were low, it is D3 that you need to take, rather than calcium... D3 builds bones, calcium just makes them brittle.

You could ask your GP for those checks in the meantime before having a re-check with your endo – your endo's bedside manners leave a lot to be desired, but on the other hand... he prescribes Erfa, so he has his uses....

Hope this helps,

Best wishes,
