Guest guest
Vicki and all, Just a few thoughts on the issue; Our 14 year old was falling asleep midday, gaining weight on minimal calories, cold extremities, poor perfusion etc and she could not get tested either. She was symptomatic for at least 2 years before testing was available. I think a mom bringing it up put off her doc-arrogance is a tricky business! Even though values were low, it was not deemed treatable. It took another 6 months for her blood work to evidence failure. Cutler had picked this up on a hair test long before her blood work showed it. I regret not hearing his warning and demanding treatment or treating it myself! as thyroid function is so important to a developing brain. You can self order meds from these or other on-line pharmacies: http://www.eshoprx.com/index.aspx http://www.brandmeds.com/pricelist.html We use Armour Thyroid a T3, T4 product. I've not found it on-line- maybe someone who has better searching skills than mine could hunt it up. The active T3 form, thyroxine sodium[generic] also known as synthroid, levothroid is available on these sites and others. Reading up on treatment-PDR is a good reference for dosage-; playing dumb with a doc on `what would be the ideal dosage for someone x's weight and age if thyroid was a problem?', asking the same of a researcher or on-line, seeking knowledge on hyper symptoms so you would clue in if signs of overdose appear etc. You'd have to be careful of what is in the tablets also if you have a sensitive child. To me, it's much like the little game we are all playing with chelation. In our state, it is illegal for a doc to chelate, so I just keep that info out of the discussion with the great guy who helps facilitate much of our testing[even though ordered by md is only sometimes paid for by insurance]. Whatever it takes to get our children well again!
Guest guest
My sister had thyroid disease and they decided to nuke hers. She always says I should have mine checked too. I'm wondering if I should have them check when they take blood for my liver test next. I don't want to give blood more than I *have* to! hehe When you said you are hungry all the time, is it now because of the medicine and you weren't before? Were you underweight before or now? It can't hurt to have it checked. Well, it can, if needles hate you as much as they hate me, but if they're taking blood anyway... My grandparents both have thyroid issues, and I think my grandma's got bad enough that they had to do surgery, but my grandpa just takes a pill every day. I wish being underweight were my problem! Sorry, I didn't explain well. According to the charts I don't think I'm necessarily overweight, but when you take into account the lack of muscle mass, I definitely feel like I weigh more than I should. I don't eat very much at all, but I'm still kind of heavy. Even when I've been super sick and spent weeks unable to keep food down, I've never been able to lose weight. Now I finally know that inability to lose weight is a common symptom of hypothyroidism. Since I've been taking the pill, I feel hungry a lot more often, which tells me that my metabolism is finally speeding up. Of course if my eating habits increase with my appetite, I'm not going to lose weight. But I'm not changing my eating patterns drastically, so I'm crossing my fingers that I'll lose a little. We'll see! -e PurplGurl3@... wrote: Just thought I'd share, in case my experience is helpful to anybody at any point... For years I've attributed lots of things to SMA. I'm tired a lot. Guest guest
Graves is one of the causes of HTN you can suspect when the patient walks in the room. Indeed I just saw a 40ish lady will new onset systolic HTN due to classical Graves, buggy eyes, fine skin, tremor etc. A key way to Dx this is to look at the old driver's license to see if faces have changed. Her's was remarkable. Indeed I suspect if good Endocrinologists or Internists could scan all Driver's Lic photos or Passports we could Dx a number of things that have been missed. Would be interested in facial photos of both of you years before, at the time of and after the treatment of the thryoid problems. Other causes of HTN we can Dx (or at least be suspicious of across the room) are hypothryoidism, Cushing's, Neurofibratosis (von Recklinghausens Syndrome), Acromegaly, 's Syndrome all of which are mentioned in my difficult HTN paper as I recall. Guess we should be collecting facial photos of all people on our sites but many might object to this. Or at least have one set early on for me to look at. We could put a black bar across the eyes to make it difficult to be recognized. Could also think about Facebook I suppose but I don't know how to do this. Guest guest
I'm using the Canadian brand, Erfa. This is actually rather easy to obtain, as long as you have a script for any brand of desicated thyroid medication. And the price was very reasonable. Guest guest
I also live in Canada, but have had a problem finding dissicated thyroid that does not have corn or cornstarch in it as a filler [i am allergit to corn]. Does this Erfa have corn/cornstarch in it? I usually either have to have a compounding pharmacy make it up for me or get Nature-Thyroid from the International Womens Pharmacy in the States. blessings Shan > > > > > > > > > I used to take 250 mg of DHEA. Guest guest
That's a shame. Don't know why manufacturers can't use starch from rice. Yes, Erfa does use corn starch. Guest guest
Many people like Nature-Throid. Hopefully it's return to regular stock in January will make things easier for all of us. Guest guest
At the moment the International Womens Pharmacy will only ship a month's worth at a time - and the added cost of shipping each month is ridiculous so I am waiting until they will ship a year's worth or more as it used to . There seem to be a lot of extra costs at the Canadian border as well as hassels when getting prescription medications from the States, for some strange reason..... blessings Shan > > > > > > I also live in Canada, but have had a problem finding dissicated > > thyroid that does not have corn or cornstarch in it as a filler [i am > > allergit to corn]. Guest guest
If WIP were smart, they would capture the opportunity brought by the drought to win some customers. Perhaps another pharmacy exists that will provide service to you & others. In my limited experience, compounders always charge a lot. Although it should be the easiest, it's much harder to get pure. My most recent ft3 test from Erfa came back low. I don't know if the cause is Erfa, or something else. Guest guest
So you need to be adding iodine to your diet if your body absorbs it that fast! Guest guest
Hi! Just swab a patch of the liquid on the skin. If the tincture is not visible after 24 hours then it means it was needed and absorbed into the body. Guest guest
Not sure. I buy mine at an asian market in my area and most of the writing is in Kanji. I pick different kinds of seaweed and see what I like which is most of it. Its dried of course but it all looks and tastes good. A tip is that after you soak what you're going to use it will be more than what you started with. So if your recipe calls for a cup, that's a cup of soaked not dried. If you're just going to add it to a salad this isn't really important, and any extra will keep in the fridge for a couple of days. Just throwing that out there. Guest guest
Hi Helen: This is not a thyroid medication which contains the hormones T4, T3, T1, T2.. This looks like just a thyroid booster, which really isn't going to boost much. What is it that you need? Do you need to be on Natural thyroid meds or just an adrenal glandular or a thyroid glandular? Cheers, JOT > My son is in Canada at the moment and he can get me this thyroid medication. > http://www.nationalnutrition.ca/detail.aspx?ID=1228 > is this any good? > Many thanks > Helen >
