Guest guest
Wasn't there some talk of the Th1/Th2 shift causing a lowering of body temp. by about 2 degrees? My body temp. was/is habitually low. But was not helped by deccicated thyroid. A lot of deccicated thyroid too. (could not tolerate other forms of thyroid medication). Treating the thyroid is probably the first thing to try. I am just now getting around to the Th1/Th2 thing. I think it is an interesting slice of the pie in relation to low body temp.. Just a different way of looking at the problem, rather than thyroid. Guest guest
I have a question, how does thyroid affect pathogens? I have a staphylococcus infection, and I'm wondering if maybe the racing heart problems I had when taking supplemental hormone was because maybe it also stimulated the production of endotoxins/enterotoxins from the pathogens? I remember reading that estrogen stimulates pathogen growth, which is why a lot of women are affected by their menstrual cycle. So I know they are affected by one hormone. Has anyone tested the effects of other hormones on pathogens? lindaj@... Guest guest
Martha - they did the TSH test for thyroid function and T3 and T4 levels. That was in late 1998 - I've been on hormones since then. I take ARmour thyroid, which affects both T3 and T4 levels unlike Synthroid, and we check about every six to 12 months to see if we need to readjust. I have been at 60 to 120 mg and currently take 75 mg on an empty stomach daily. It is not usually something you can get off of, as thyroid doesn't repair itself as adrenals do. Hope that helps - Jennie Date: Sat, 30 Mar 2002 11:44:13 +0800 From: " Ho " <justinho@...> Subject: RE: Re: Hypothyroidism - Hi What kind of hormorned was it and what ptotocol and for how long? Usually you get 3 numbers T3, T4 & TSH. TSH is thyroid stimulating hormone. Liam's can be high, but as long as T3 & T4 are within normal range, the endocrinologist doesn't think he needs medication. Most kids with DS have problems when T3 or T4 are below the normal range (hypothyroid). As I posted on another list recently, there's an abstract on the Medscape data base that zinc defficiencies in children with DS can cause high TSH readings. Liam's TSH went down when I started giving him a little extra zinc. Kathy, Liam's mom (4)

Guest guest
I am not really sure.. I think there are two types.. one that can make a child overweight and slow moving.. another that can be overactive.. I am sure someone on here can better explain.. I am still learning about it all myself.. but if he didn't go on meds, then the Dr. said his neck could swell up and his balance would be off??? I'm no help. I didn't know of any symptoms.. the blood test is what said it wasn't right. Shar What are the symptoms of a thyroid problem?

A couple of people in her family have one and when they got on meds, they lost weight, so she is just insisting she has a thyroid prolbem. Guest guest
Some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid are fatigue, weight gain, increased snoring and hair loss. I think there are many more but I forgot what they are. These are symptoms for the general population, I assume they would be the same for our kids. Hope Shar*Ü* wrote: > I am not really sure.. Guest guest
What is the best way for quitting smoking? I am going to try again. I have tried cold turkey and used the patches. But it never lasted. I really depend on my cigarettes for my nerves. With 5 kids plus doing at home daycare. I can't go without my cig. too long. My kids argue and the 3 yr. old is a crab at night. And just so many things. I know I should not depend on smoking for stress relief, but I do. And I really want to quit. Send some advice my way. Guest guest
Dear Keri. I know my Rheum. Doc checks me for Thyroid problems every time I get blood drawn. So there must be some kind of connection. So far my Thyroid is fine. I hope your surgery went well. It sounds like you have been through so much. I hope you start feeling better soon and life gets easier for you. I am not on Prednisone but I am the heaviest I have ever been because of lack of exercise. I have been having quite a bit of back pain that is further limiting my activities. I don't eat that much it is from a lack of exercise. I am working hard to lose weight. It certainly isn't easy. I know it is so much more difficult when your on the Prednisone. I have been there. I didn't mean to babble. Let us know how your doing and how the Thyroid test turns out. I have never heard of the surgery that you had. I hope it went well and it is helping. Keep us posted. Love, jatw@...

Guest guest
Hi , I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism back in September. I was given this web site, which ended up being a wealth of information: www.thyroid-info.com I encourage you to browse through the site and, in particular, read the articles and FAQs. Many doctors today are not as educated on thyroid conditions as much as we wish they would be. So it's up to you to educate yourself on the condition and on how to deal with your doctor as far as making a diagnosis based on interpretation of blood tests (not the best diagnosis tool) combined with consideration of your symptoms and, if you're diagnosed with a thyroid condition, trying different treatments until you find the one that eliminates your symptoms. Feel free to email me privately if you need more info, either now or after you've seen your doctor. Sue > > Hey gals.... > > I talked on the phone this evening with Kim Cantergiani. She was a BFL 2001 champ. She spent well over an hour with me and was very nice. > > She asked me all sorts of questions and in the end said I should definitely be seeing some results now, after five weeks....at least some looser pants. > > Anyway, a few things she suggested...one I should eat more...She says my calories are too low, second that I should eat before my weight training and also not get up so early before my cardio. Third she recommended I do moderate cardio a couple times a week, preferably after weights and finally that I get my thyroid checked. > > It is this last suggestion that I am inquiring about. Guest guest
Thank you for your responses. I have an appointment with an internal med specialist on Monday to have a complete work over. I don't think I've had that done since high school. I did have a blood test done in September to make sure my mono virus was gone. That doctor finally called me back today and said they did do a thyroid test. My result was .80 which is in the normal range of .40 to 5.50. I called my herbalist who said it is low enough on the spectrum to cause issues and that my next appointment could show a greater depletion. So for now, I'm taking an herbal supplement. I will still tell the doctor all my weird symptoms.....like one of the sites I went to said a good test is to take ones temperature and if it is lower than 80 degrees there is a good chance ones thyroid has a problem. My temp has been ninety six to ninety seven for years. That in and of itself may not be cause for alarm, but with everything else it makes me wonder.
