Subject: Hi everyone im new here, please help

Hi, I was diagnosed with M.E. 20 years ago, also IBS and osteoarthritis.I was diagnosed with a borderline under-active thyroid 10 years ago put on 25mcg of levothyroxine per day, and left on this dose ever since as my doctor says my blood test results are always within range, over the years my THS has varied between 8.4 and 2.7 and T4 between 12 and 14. My recent test two weeks ago was THS 3.2 and T4 14. my ferritin level was 13, and i have a low white blood cell count of 2. My doctor says all this is ok, but i keep telling her that i definitely do not feel ok. My health has got worse and worse, i have so many symptoms, that my whole body is now affected, i am now so ill that i am housebound and bed-bound most of the time. The doctors will not listen they seem to think it is all in your mind,i don't understand why they have this attitude as why would anyone choose to have most of their life wasted away being this ill.I so much want to feel better than this...

CarlaThe reference range for THS is 0.4 to 4.5, and for T4 is10 to 24. the  range for white blood cell count is 4 to 11, and sorry but i don't know the range for ferritin levels,

Carla

Hi Carla

Sorry to hear you are so unwell, and have been for so long.

From my understanding, ferritin is too low at 13 and that TSH would 'earn' you a

hypothyroid diagnosis in other countries.

Whereabouts in the country do you live? Do you have any other test results you

can post (sorry i hope typing doesn't hurt your hands if you have osteoarthritis

:-( )

someone else who'll be more help and who will give you more helpful guidance

will be along soon, i'm sure. I just wanted to respond to your post and make

sure it's not missed by someone who can help more, and that you don't feel

ignored or anything.

if you're up to reading, then Dr Barry Peatfield wrote a very good book

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Your-Thyroid-How-Keep-Healthy/dp/190514010X/ref=sr_1_1?i\

e=UTF8 & s=books & qid=1308343536 & sr=8-1

Dr Peatfield practices as a nutritionist now and does clinics around the

country. He may be be a good person to help you, though he is private now. He

cannot prescribe for you but can make suggestions on what treatment would help

you. Sheila has a list of doctors, who may help, so that is another option.

I know, i know. So many people are told this rubbish. It's all in your mind -

what an insult. we know our own bodies. if only these octors experienced the

same thing, then they'd soon change their tune. There are so many stories of

people not being listened to. I have severe sleep apnea, for instance (i stop

breathing while asleep). and was told - aggressively - when i dared to question

the 'stress' diagnosis, that the mental nurse in question knew the symptoms of

stress, depression -he had been doing the job 20 years! he knew the signs, i

was in denial! furthermore, if i did choose to have counselling, i was told it

wouldn't work for me because i was arguing with him! Well, i (barely) stuck to

my guns and found out i was right - i stopped breathing 90 times an hour. can

be fatal. was i apologised to, acknowledged? of course not! but with treatment

i started to be able to cope with work, just about.

also i was told testosterone was normal, when it's not, but just because it's in

range, then it's ok! er, no it's not actually, and let me give you doctor some

studies to show it's not. so those are just two examples from me. you are

doing the right thing by questioning what you have been told and i hope that you

will soon start to find the right treatment and start to get better.

Do you take anything apart from 25mcg T4 thyroid?

i hope this helps a little

best wishes

chris
