Guest guest
So went to Doc's this morning, armed with all my info. I'd prepared a letter but it had only been scanned onto my patient record so she hadn't been able to read it prior to meeting. So I had to quickly cover as much ground as possible - said I was cold all the time, showed her my up and down BBT - all permanently under 36.6c and discussed the family history, previous tests done, the tiredness etc... I led into - " i got an introduction to this endo (from Sheila's list) and had the chance to ask a few questions about the results - he pointed out that low TSH and lo-ish ft4 could mean... " and she chimed in with me - pituitary issues. So thankfully a doc that didn't seem to assume that my TSH/FT4 meant an instant " there's nothing wrong " and someone who knew a bit about pituitary too! So she's taken bloods to look at LH, FSH, Testosterone, prolactin and FREE t3 :-) however she did say there was a chance the lab would just ignore the request for FT3. Think she did anti-bodies as well. There were only 3 vials. Oh and ESR (for inflammatory but i feel that's a bit pointless with my wheat " intolerance " as it doesn't pinpoint where the inflammation is! I also explained to her I was keen to know if my T4 was converting to t3 as explained by Toft and she agreed that Toft was " excellent " in his knowledge of this area. (just prepping her for a possible dessicated request!) She seemed very non-judgemental, was happy to listen to what I had to say and is going to go over the results with me when they arrive. She did say to my printout of about 20 NHS trusts each with a different Freet4 range (some starting at 9, some 10, some 11 and some 12!) that it's the equipment that's different that causes these fluctuations. Not sure about that. But she acutally examined my neck with her hands and did an eye test for " tunnel vision " - a common pit complaint. I also mentioned that PCOS sometimes goes hand in hand with pit due to the hormonal imbalances...so she was happy to check for that, as I confirmed a few of the symptoms there. Anyhoo.... So she didn't mention anything about the adrenals, even though my temp chart is up and down like a yo-yo. What should I do there? I'm fairly sure my pit is messing up thyroid, adrenals and possibly a few girly hormones but only ever so gently that it's only just presenting a few symptoms in each area. I'd like to nip this in the bud immediately to improve the prognosis for future quality of life. ta and Sheila thank you very much for all your help. Interestingly that Doc search did point to most of them being diabetic specialists (understandably as it's rife - but sad they haven't realised yet that thyroid probs are probably just as rife!) but so was the Doc on your list that I emailed- he's quite senior in his NHS Trust as a Diabetologist! take care ya'll
