Guest guest
Hi Marta, You might want to have your heart checked out, BP and all. If you don't start your period soon. Edema of that magnitude isn't common with Lyme that I have read. Hang in there and wear slippers if they will fit. Hugs, Connie

Guest guest
Not enough albumin (a protein made by the liver and one of the LFT values ) is a major factor in water retention. As I understand it, albumin is a regulator allowing a certain amount of fluid to " seep out into the body from blood vessels. " If we don't have enough, then the blood vessels work like leaky pipes. I found the following at http://www.temple.edu/gisection/cirrhos.html .. " As liver function declines, less protein is made by the organ. For example, less of the protein albumin is made, which results in water accumulating in the legs (edema) or abdomen (ascites). A decrease in proteins needed for blood clotting makes it easy for the person to bruise or to bleed. " The entire article is fairly easy to read and explains some of the hows of the liver functions. Guest guest
Thanks Kathy! Is there any way to help the edema? Just the use of diuretics? Tami

They do albumin transfusions sometimes I guess. Otherwise, I think we just have to go for reduced sodium diets and diurectices.

Don't know if it can be used to supplement the bodies lack of albumin. Maybe a dietian/nutrio. could tell us.
Guest guest
Dear Tami: Other than that diuretics, the best way to fight water retention (in my opinion) is a low or no salt diet. I use it very sparingly. Avoid boxed mixes and soups that are high in sodium. Also teriyaki and soy sauces are very high sodium sources. Several others from the group swear by high protein diet to help with the edema too. Kathy (AIH) Seattle area
Guest guest
can someone please tell me what you're doing for this? My face, hands, feet are puffy. I've cut back on salt but it doesn't seem to help much. Anyone on diuretics? What kind? Thanks much, Margaret diagnosed 10-1-06 with 128k WBC with Philadephia 11-13-06 9.1 WBC on 600 mg gleevec Margaret , mpraymond@... margaret-raymond@... Guest guest
quoting 53567- hope this helps! " I was drinking the electrolyte drink and for the most part, it was too hot to eat much. I had a few slices of meat and a few eggs each day, but not much else. Well, by late Friday afternoon, I could hardly bend my knees, and my husband was telling me I had " Fred Flinstone " feet. Nothing like that has ever happened to me. Then I read on another NT list about being a " salt loser, " and I did a little more research and realized I must be lacking potassium!!! So my husband and I walked down to the Tienda on our block and ordered giant veggie chicken salads, which they fill with chopped vegetables, including radishes, greens and carrots. I also ate about six small bananas (!), and took two magnesium/potassium blend supplements. Within hours the swelling was gone. Amazing!! On Thu, May 22, 2008 at 7:20 PM, a K.
