I have missed a dose a couple of times and it does not seem to have had any adverse consequences. I think you did the right thing by just taking your daily dosage today -- I remember reading that, if you forget to take it one day, you are NOT supposed to take a double dose the next day. Get yourself a pill box from the drug or grocery store with a compartment for each day of the week. I have a box for the morning vitamins and a box just for Gleevec in the evening. I've never missed a dose. One question I've always had is what to do if you vomitted after taking the pill. I know some people have nausea issues and depending on how long after it happens, I suppose you could lose the dose along with your meal. That means if you cant remember you took your daily pill or didn't, its better to take a new one. So, I think it will be better to take a new pill if you vomit too. My instructions for taking Sprycel (in a trial at OHSU) is " if you vomit within 30 minutes after taking drug, a new tablet may be given. " I think this was the same for the Gleevec trial. C. Guest guest Posted November 20, 2006 Report Share Posted November 20, 2006 I agree that vomiting within 30 mins of taking a dose, would gurantee that you've lost the dose and you could take another pill without worry. I've had this happen a couple of times with me and although I thought about taking another pill, I decided not to because my feeling was that if I lost the first one, chances were good that I'd lose the second one especially seeing as I wouldn't be able to eat another huge meal to support it. Thankfully this hasn't been a huge problem for me. I don't worry about one lost pill here and there because I don't believe it changes much in the grand scheme of things. If it was a regular occurance, I would make some kind of effort to deal with it though (perhaps by taking an anti-nausea drug before hand). I have on occasion forgotten to take my meds or have them with me when I was eating out and made them up later and gotten away with it. But missing one occasionally is not the end of the world. I believe a review will show that many of us have had to take a vacation from Gleevec in order to balance everything and get a fresh start. This can be anything from a couple of days to a couple of months. If you are starting to have the Gleevec moments (Did I? or Didn't I?) do get the daily pill sorter and use it. Nothing like having something to reinforce and reassure us that we have done everything right. Guest guest Posted November 22, 2006 Report Share Posted November 22, 2006 The first thing is, never take Chemo on an empty stomach, second is, Gleevec doesnt have to be taken all at once. Break up your dosage, take them 2 or 3 times per day, this is a lot easier on your stomach. If you miss a dose and you remember it within a reasonable time, take it. If not, theres nothing you can do. But, definitely get a pill holder so you know what youve taken and what you haven't. Some people like to laugh at that theory on time change and the rotation of the earth but I watched my grandma's Alzheimer's worsen again when we did not change her LDN time with the time change and once we changed her LDN dosage time with the time change she improved again.
