Guest guest
From my discussions with people working in Nigeria (I never flew into Lagos, just Port Harcourt- more below), Lagos isn't as bad as it used to be, and no one ever mentioned any problems bringing in computer equipment. Should you be unlucky enough to fly into Port Harcourt from Paris, the Customs people are complete bastards. Several of our guys have had to pay up to $100 to bring in a laptop. They paw through your stuff pretty hard looking for anything that might be ransomable. All to that classic Nigerian tune " Do you have something for me...? " I got around this by dashing the baggage porter $10 to take care of the customs guys. He takes your bags up, shakes hands, they open a zipper, glance inside and wave you on through. I never give money to the officials. Someone needs to write a Nigerian Survival Guide for Expats. I have worked in active war zones where I felt safer. And on the lighter side: from http://j-walk.com/blog/docs/conference.htm I present to you an urgent and confidential request: I request your attendance at The 3rd Annual Nigerian EMail Conference. This is an excellent opportunity to meet your distinguished colleagues, learn new marketing techniques, and spend your hard-earned money. Attending this conference demands the highest trust, security and confidentiality between us.

Guest guest
Hi Sheila. I have received a card today from the post office saying I have to pay customs £21 19 before I can have my parcel, which is the thyroid tablets I sent for from value pharmaceuticals. Does this happen everytime you send for medication or have I just been unlucky with the customs people. I am so fed up as I have been sick from work for 6 months now, no signs of getting any better and now more money to pay. I recieved your list of doctors for the Armour, thank you, but I am a bit confused as to who will definately prescribe me Armour. I cannot afford to travel and pay privately if they turn around and say they wont prescribe it. Sorry for moaning I am feeling really low at the moment as I dont have any medical support whatsoever. My Regards Avril x
Guest guest
Hello Avril - I have just responded to your other message. I had forgotten I had sent you these details previously or that you had sent for Armour - there are just so many members. You have hit bad luck with the Customs - mostly people get away with Customs not noticing, they apparently do spot checks and anything over £18 they find they slap on the VAT charge. In future, you might be better getting 'Thiroid' or 'Thyroid-s' from Thailand. These are different brands of thyroid extract and I believe have a lot of other ingredients, but people say they are excellent products and I don't think they are being stopped at Customs. Others here on the forum will tell you of their experience. The best thing to do is to telephone the doctors secretary on the list, to find out whether they do prescribe natural thyroid extract for those patients who cannot convert T4 and then you won't waste your money on travelling. Have you considered trying a combination of synthetic T4 and synthetic T3, as this works very well for some people. Guest guest
Hi Sheila Thanks for your help. I have had t3 as well as the t4 from the endo that exacerbated the joint pains I have been having. You did mention it could be my adrenals but when I have looked I don't have any of the side effects in fact I am gaining weight really badly. I have an appointment next week and I am going to ask for a blood test for adrenals as well as the usual TSH. Could you advise me of any other test I should have? Thanks for all your help Sheila, I really do appreciate it. Thanks Avy x > > Hello Avril - I have just responded to your other message. Guest guest
Hi Avy Getting a cortisol blood test done through your GP will only show a snapshot of the amount of cortisol your adrenals are secreting at that particular time. It should be done early in the morning. If you are sent for a short synacthen test to the hospital, this will only check to see whether you are suffering with 's disease (too low or no cortisol secretion) or Cushing's Syndrome (too high a level of cortisone secretion). None of these tests will show whether you are suffering with adrenal fatigue. You need the 24 hour salivary adrenal profile done that will show the level of cortisol and DHEA at four specific times during the day and night. This is not recognised within the NHS. I would first recommend that you answer the adrenal questionnaire that you will find in our Files Section of this forum. Scroll down to Medical Questionnaires and let us know how you score. What you have probably checked on the Internet is 's disease (adrenal insufficiency) and you would not be showing any of those symptoms or side effects unless this is your problem. No amount of thyroid hormone can get into the cells if your adrenals are pooped until you start taking adrenal supplements. If the thyroid hormone is not getting properly absorbed you will gain weight and get the other symptoms of hypothyroidism - so it could be your adrenal fatigue that could be the reason why this is happening It is the same if you are found to have low levels of ferritin, B12, D3, magnesium, folate copper and zinc - you need to supplement whatever you are low in first, so your GP needs to test for these.
