Hi Sheila

I am not the lady in question but stuggled to take the T3 as you mentioned. I

cut back the T4 which helped and only took a quater of a 20mcg tablet to start

with.

It has taken many months/years to get as far as half a tablet on a morning and a

quater of a tablet on an afternoon so you might not count that as successfull.

I did try to only take 25mcg of levothyroxine but had ill effects so went back

up to 50 mcg split dose.

Do feel better with it than without though even at such a small dose.

Hi Sheila,

I don't think I am the lady you are looking for but I had scary

symptoms/problems when I first started to take T3.

Dr P told me to start taking a 1/4 of a 25mg tablet of T3. I took the 1/4 tablet

and after about an hour I felt dreadful. BP very high - pulse - over 100 -

shakey - felt like my head would explode. Because of the information on the

forum, I knew that the symptoms would subside in about 4/5 hours. It was a very

scary 4/5 hours. When I eventually contacted Dr P - he said that the reason for

the reaction was that my adrenals were probably not sufficiently supported.

It took a long time before I felt confident enough to start again with the T3.

I bought 5mg Cytomel. I cut the tablet into 4. The 1.25mg seemed to be small

enough for me to tolerate.

I started with 1.25 at lunchtime as I was taking 1 grain of Armour at the time.

It took many, many months of slowly increasing and decreasing. Sometimes if I

was not having a good time with stress etc., I would have to decrease the T3 and

increase when I felt stable enough.

I am now on 40mg T3, 1 grain Nature-Throid and 15mg of Cortef.

I think my problem was that my adrenals were worse than Dr P or I had realised.

I feel so much better since I changed from Isocort to Cortef.
