Guest guest
It seems I am to have one of these now. At the moment I am only taking Erfa 4 grains and 5mcg of T3. Does anyone know if I need to stop these 24 hours before the Short Synacthen test, or would they have no influence over the outcome at all. What does a short synacthen test actually test for. Is it only cortisol or are other hormones included. I did the test on Dr. Hertogue's site and it showed ACTH, Cortisol, Insulin, Melatonin, Progesterone, and Vasopressin all as satisfactory. The possible or probable dificiencies were Aldesterone, Calcitocin, DHEA, EPO, Estrogen, Growth Hormone, Pregnenolone, Testosterone, and thyroid hormone. Would the short synacthen test find out about those do you know? If it is just going to find out about Cortisol only then it will probably be a waste of time. Guest guest
My understanding is it only tests cortisol, unless they specifically ask to check the other hormones? i had a test and they also -before i took the synacthen - took samples to check for aldosterone, testostterone, thyroid etc. you could ask them to see if they would check these things too maybe? chris > > What does a short synacthen test actually test for. Guest guest
Were these tests done when you were on some form of HC or any other adrenal supplements Mandy Luv - Sheila I have just been going through some old medical bits and pieces as I have to take some of them to a London hospital tomorrow and found my SST test results from a few years back. Can anyone make sense of these:- cortisol at start of test 399 30 minutes 822 60 minutes 910 another one that same year start 328 30 minutes 775 60 minutes 872 Looks to me like my response is normal and so are my levels are baseline - am I right. Down the line I was told I was low and I am on HC - feel great on it - and it helped my symptoms but was I low at this point? best wishes Mandy ------------------------------------ TPA is not medically qualified. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, No I wasn't but I was in a bad way with the Lupus and was undiagnosed thyroid on one test and with thyroid meds on the other. If anything I had symptoms of Cushings - but the sweating etc went when on thyroid meds. best wishes Mandy
