Guest guest
http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2010/09/30/hypothyroidism-symptoms-and-prevention-in-pet-dogs.aspx I would recommend that for those of you who believe you have the symptoms and signs of hypothyroidism and your GP relies on your TSH test ONLY, or TSH and free T4….and for those of you who don't do well on synthetic levothyroxine and are refused any other form of thyroid hormone replacement, that instead of trying to get a diagnosis and a choice of treatment from your doctor, you visit your local Vet. When diagnosing dogs with possible hypothyroidism, they take into account TSH, free T4, free T3, check for thyroid antibodies. They also check the adrenals and treat accordingly as they recognise the connection between adrenals and thyroid. Vets also recognise the importance of giving animals a choice of treatment, including natural desiccated thyroid extract. I always said that vets know a lot more than the majority of doctors about hypothyroidism. Luv - Sheila
