Hi Dolly,

My mum had anemia years ago and used to have iron injections given to her by her

doctor. They were in the cheek of her derriere and she said walking home

afterwards was dreadful!

If your endos are the ones who recommended injections (and other doctors

disagree) then I think you would have to pursue getting this treatment from the

endos themselves.

You can read the guidance that GPs get on treating iron-deficiency anaemia here:

http://www.cks.nhs.uk/anaemia_iron_deficiency#-314274

GPs are recommended to adjust the oral iron doses in people who are not

responding well and to check compliance or prescribe other meds to relieve the

side-effects of iron tablets. If there is still a poor response, then they are

advised to refer to a specialist - which is something you've already tried with

the haematologist.

Given this, I think your best bet would be to chase up your endo on this

tomorrow and ask them for the injection treatment if they think you still need

it. If they think it's necessary then they should be able to get one of their

endo nurses to organise an injection at the hospital. Alternatively ask for a

second haematology opinion.
