I'm back from my Indian trip and I'm glad to say that despite being told I

should have my thyroid removed before contemplating going to such a country, I

survived and enjoyed it despite feeling pretty lethargic.

I got my blood test results dated 02/11/10 and I'm seeing the consultant tonight

so I was wondering what people thought about them.

T3 [3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L] - 4.4

T4 [12.0 - 22.0 pmol/L] - 9.2

TSH [0.27 - 4.20 mlU/L] - 13.75

I'm on 10 mg or Carbimazole but I probably need to diminish it! and I'm loosing

my hair big time.

Many thanks for your help.

Youa are very hypo, if you are staying on that dose you need to add

some replacement hormone, T3 would work best.

Cutting the carb may bring you back to normal but may not.

Yey for your trip! I bet it was fab.

I am so far from being an expert on this, but your results aren't wildly

dissimilar to mine so I'll stick my neck out and make a comment...

You sound hypo now to me, not hyper. When my TSH reached 5 and my T4 was 14 I

was told to stop the Carbizamole immediately. I am on nothing at the moment with

my TSH going up and T4 going down. I feel utterly awful, but sadly my Endo

thinks that my bloods are now " in the normal range " (git!). I would be really

interested to hear what your Dr says. Please do post a follow up!

Hi , I am pleased to hear you had such an enjoyable

time, though I don't know how you did with such results as you are showing. You

are indeed in need of thyroid hormone replacement with your free T4 being

outside of the bottom of the reference range and your free T3 leaves a lot to

be desired, but with a TSH of 13.75, it will be interesting to see what the

endocrinologist suggests. Let us know tomorrow.

Many thanks for your comments. I'll let you know tomorrow what the consultant

will have told me.

To be honest I saw India in a bit of a hypothyroidism haze but it was still

worth it..much harder now I'm back.

Thanks again.

Hi , glad you enjoyed you trip- I hope to go to india one day. Yes with those results redicing the carbimazole would be a good idea as the FT3 is far too low in it's range- most folk need it nearere the 6.0 mark.

Apologies . I went to delete the other messages you had left appended

and was going to leave just a small portion of what you were responding to, but

instead, I think I removed your message. It must have been right down at the

bottom.

Please can you resend it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi,

Not sure what happened there...I thought I had posted my new blood tests results

as well as what the consultant had told me but I might have put it elsewhere and

I can't find it.

My blood tests as on 24/11/10 were:

T3 4.1 [3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L]

T4 13.6 [12.0 - 22.0 pmol/L]

TSH 6.20 [0.27 - 4.20]

The locum consultant seemed pretty pleased with my results as my TSH had gone

down from 13.75 on 22/10/10 to 6.20

She advised me to cut my carbimazole to 5mg a day (instead of 10) and tested my

level of Vit Bs and Zinc because I'm loosing my hair and I've done so for a

while.

Now I am still waiting for the results. Neither the specialist nurse nor the

endocrine secretary have sent them to me eventhough I have been chasing them up

but I have received a letter with my next appointment on 29th January which

seems a bit far away. AFter querying why waiting so long I've been told by the

nurse that my thyroid function was now stable hence a check up every two months!

to be honest in the meantime I have been quite busy at work, had to go back to

reality after a two weeks trip to India and I've been in a foul mood for about a

week and half, culminating today with me storming out of the office after an

argument with my manager so god knows what's going on...not sure whether it's

me, my hormones, the treatment or life.

Hi pat, Those results are on the low side, so no wonder you have been 'tears and temper' hopefully the reduction in carbimazole will help raise your levels to a more pleasant level. I'd shout loudly to the hospital for an earlier appt if it does not go well. > thyroid treatment > From: pgelthooft@...> > Hi,> Not sure what happened there...I thought I had posted my new blood tests results as well as what the consultant had told me but I might have put it elsewhere and I can't find it.> My blood tests as on 24/11/10 were:> T3 4.1 [3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L]> T4 13.6 [12.0 - 22.0 pmol/L]> TSH 6.20 [0.27 - 4.20]> The locum consultant seemed pretty pleased with my results as my TSH had gone down from 13.75 on 22/10/10 to 6.20> She advised me to cut my carbimazole to 5mg a day (instead of 10) and tested my level of Vit Bs and Zinc because I'm loosing my hair and I've done so for a while. Hi ,

Thanks for your reply. It has now been two weeks since my dose of Carbimazole

has been lowered. I'll wait another week and see how it goes. My period just

started today so it could have something to do with it although I'm starting to

read the post about thyroid and antidepressants with great attention.

All the best,
