Hi Leah, After 5 weeks you awill be on T4 only- all that lovely T3 and minor hormones will have gone. so in your shoes as you are feeling rotten I'd ask to go back on the NDT straight away. Poor adrenal function is a complicating factor. Have a look at the excellent comparative adrenal/thyroid symptoms list on http://www.drrind.com to help you work out where your problems lie. > thyroid treatment > From: leah.leaves@...> Date: Tue, 12 Oct 2010 10:26:43 +0000> Subject: OK, OK, you lot were right!!> > Hi > > Some of you may remember me posting a while ago, as my doc had persuaded me to "try" thyroxine after high t3 on test results...despite me feeling pretty much OK on NDT 2 and a half grains (well not perfect, but better than I do now!)... > > The doc did say I could go back on to NDT if the trial failed. I allowed myself to be persuaded, as in the back of my mind, I just wanted to be a standard patient, espescially with the Psoriatic arthritis and sjogren's too, I'm tired of always trying to explain why I am not on the "normal" drug.> > It has been 5 weeks on thyroxine now - actually to be perfectly honest, I was asked to transfer to 175mcg, but decided to only take 125 and 1 grain of NDT. The doc does not know this, it was only as I had some left over.> > I have been feeling absolutely dreadful over the last couple of weeks - my skin has dried up, I am exhausted and ready for bed at 2 -3 in the afternoon, the insomnia is back...also temperature has gone all awry again - once I get cold or hot, I don't seem to be able to easily cool off or warm up. I am getting really down, and also withdrawing from my partner/friends/family - this was a big symptom before.>> So what now? Do I wait and see if the T4 does kick in? Do I think b*gger it, and self medicate again? Try to see my normal doc?> > If I try and go back to NDT myself, presumably it will take as long or longer to kick in? Unless I go straight to my normal dose, in which case, presumably with the higher dose of T4 in my system I will be hyper for a bit...> > The complicating factor with all of this, is I did feel terrible for quite a while with NDT, I do wonder whether it was taking hydrocortisone which helped it "bed in" and get on an even keel - perhaps I need to keep with the thyroxine/NDT mix and add in hydrocortisone??> > I don't know!! I would love to hear anybody's thoughts...> > Leah x> > > > ------------------------------------> > TPA is not medically qualified. >> Hi can someone please explain what NDT is please

It's an umbrella name for all natural thyroid products like Armour, ERFA thyroid, Thyroid S, Thiroyd, Westhroid or Naturethroid.... NDT stands for Natural Desiccated Thyroid.

Best wishes,

Hi Sheila

> Thanks for your reply, the thing is I can't afford the tests at the moment,

nor can I afford to go to Dr P or others... I was just hoping that this could

just be a blip - I was pretty OK only 5 weeks ago before I was taken off NDT, so

was trying to get back to that level ASAP.

have to take my NDT at night to be able to cope with it... This is perhaps why

on the low dose of NDT I have carried on taking alongside the thyroxine is not

lasting past 2-3 in the afternoon...

just leave off the thyroxine for a week, then raise to 1.5 grains?

Hi Leah, If you intend to start adrenal support you should stop the thyroid meds for a few days first-in case it suddenly causes a dump of thyroid hormones which can send you hyper- which can be very uncomfortable. A peculiar internal shivering is a unique adrenal symptom. > thyroid treatment > From: leah.leaves@...> Date: Tue, 12 Oct 2010 14:19:09 +0000> Subject: Re: OK, OK, you lot were right!!> > > Hi , > > Thanks for your reply...Yes definately feeling a lack of something!! Though I am still taking 1gr so should be getting *some* T3 etc...> > I have looked at the Dr Rind site as you suggested, and I seem to have a lot of the mixed and the adrenal symptoms. Could it just be adrenal fatigue then? I know I am susceptible to it. The fact I have lost my appetite and consequently 3/4 of a stone in the last month or so probably back this up.> > I didn't take my thyroid meds last night as I had a big bout of insomnia the previous night, and was worrying about T4 build up - do you think I should start adrenal support tomorrow? I have some siberian ginseng, and I also have some hydrocortisone. I don't have enough Erfa to start on 2.5 gr for any length of time, so will have to wait to start it properly again, I am due to see a GP on Friday (on an unrelated matter - I have been having weird muscle weakness and muscle twitches) so I will try again to get the NDT re- prescribed again. If not I will have to just bite the bullet and buy my own. If I do succeed, what does do you think I should take?? Perhaps 1 1/2 for the first couple of weeks while the T4 build up drops??> > Thanks you are always such a help to me, > > Leah x> > > > > -- In thyroid treatment , jenny stenning <jennystenning@...> wrote:> >> > > > Hi Leah,> > After 5 weeks you awill be on T4 only- all that lovely T3 and minor hormones will have gone. so in your shoes as you are feeling rotten I'd ask to go back on the NDT straight away.
