Guest guest
Hi Avril, This confused me too when I first started Thyroid meds. 1 grain of Dessiccated (Natural) Thyroid is either 60-65mg (depending upon the brand). 1 grain actually contains ~38mcg T4 & 9mcg T3 although this can vary slightly too depending upon the brand. Is the one you ordered Graeter Pharma or Erfa brand? As per this link.... http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/armour-vs-other-brands/ 1/ Thiroid (Greater Pharma) actually contains " ... " thiroyd " at one grain contains T3 at 8.31 microgram; T4 at 35 microgram, which is 0.013% and 0.058% respectively " 2/ Thyroid (Erfa) contains " ...each Erfa 60 mg tablet embossed " ECI 60 " , there is 35 mcg of T4 and 8 mcg of T3 (as compared to 38/9 in US brands) This is equivalent to the US one grain. Guest guest
Hello Avril, I have attached a document I wrote about how to use natural desiccated thyroid extract and this should help answer your questions. The tablets you are taking are the Canadian licensed NDT called Erfa 'Thyroid' and is what many of us are using. Read this document and if there is anything you don't understand, just shout, and well done for taking your thyroid health into your own hands. I doubt you will be sorry. Are you already taking levothyroxine and if so, how long have you been taking it and how much were you taking. What were the results of your last thyroid function tests. We need the figures and the reference range for each of the tests done. Good luck. Luv - Sheila Please can anyone help me. I have sent for the natural thyroid, which is called 'Thyroid' and they apparantely are in mgs. I have been reading up a bit but I keep reading it comes in grains. This is all new to me and after much fighting to get this medication legally, I have been forced like many others to self medicate. I got the tablets from value Phamaceuticals and they are called Thyroid, does anyone else take these from that pharmacy. Sorry I am a bit nervous over all this. _,___ 1 of 1 File(s) HOW TO TREAT WITH NATURAL THYROID EXTRACT.doc
Guest guest
I changed from Levothyroxine 100mcgs and T3 30mcgs to ERFA in Sept and have never looked back. Guest guest
This isnt a fair comparison though because you are taking much more hormone now. 5 grains = 180 T4 and 45 T3 V 100 T4 and 30 T3 You may well have done ok on a higher T4/T3 dose. > > I changed from Levothyroxine 100mcgs and T3 30mcgs to ERFA in Sept and have never looked back. Guest guest
Wonderful Gwen, keep up the good work. I know when I changed from levo to Armour 7 years ago, I have called it my little miracle pill, even though I am now taking the Erfa 'Thyroid'. Isn't life wonderful? Guest guest
Who cares whether it is a fair comparison or not . It's not fair when doctors ONLY give us levothyroxine and keep us feeling so ill. It is left up to each individual to find out what medication and dose gives us back our health and our life. For many, synthetic T4/T3 combination has no comparison with natural thyroid extract where we are getting ALL the thyroid hormones (not just T4 and T3) and other unspecified enzymes we need. For now, it seems synthetic T4 and T3 works fine for you. I hope this continues. Luv - Sheila This isnt a fair comparison though because you are taking much more hormone now. 5 grains = 180 T4 and 45 T3 V 100 T4 and 30 T3 You may well have done ok on a higher T4/T3 dose. --- __
