Guest guest
I am 66 on Monday and receive lowest mobility care and middle rate personal care. As I have become more immobile with my joints I got in touch with DLA to see if I could get more help with getting about. The answer is that mobility care stops at the age of 65, and to get higher personal care I have to be in such a state that I need care day and night. This is also a one bedroom flat so no room for somebody to sleep here. In my surgery there is also a notice that a GP will not visit patients with mobilty problems, so as mobility affects thyroid patients how do you view this. To have a carer stay here day and night could make me very vulnerable to infections even if it was two bedroomed. Has anyone got any advice as far as this goes. In my present state I would be reluctant to sign for surgery, and have a fear of even visiting a hospital let alone stay in one due to my weakened immune system Kathleen
Guest guest
Kathleen. You need to ask your local Social Services Dept for an assessment of your care needs and also an Occupational Therapy referral which will help with the 'gadgetry'. There are also assistive technology services available which they can look at as well - there is plenty of stuff out there even if you have to wait for it. Some chemists will deliver meds and if you have a hospital appt then you can ask for hospital transport or there should be a volunteer or community car scheme in your area that you can register with. Make use of these services out there Kathleen - whilst we still have them. Good luck Stacey --
Guest guest
HI STACEY Thanks for all this advice. I have just been in touch with my CPN and she is going to pick me up and drop me off at my surgery tomorrow, and disuss all this gen you have given to me.I managed to drop my breakfast as well this morning so its plastic dishes from now on. As far as photography goes my cameras have been put away until my joints are better, as to drop a camera would really upset me.
