Guest guest
hi amanda, ferritin can be raised (or at apparently good level) due to inflammation somewhere ...i keep reading that it is more informative to have a full iron panel done and that saturation needs to be 35%. i'm sorry you're feeling well under par and wish you better. trish > > > Hi everyone, > > Have recently been feeling very weak and tired, and have become so exercise intolerant that even walking on a flat surface or climbin g one flight of stairs leaves me breathless and feeling like I've done a high intensity cardio session. (vaguely sick) > > I'm on HC, T3 and NT as well as Vit C, 4 NAX. I was thinking I might have a heart problem, sudden heart attacks run in my family and I do hold on to lot of water, specially round my middle. I recently took diuretics for 4 days and the stomach vanished. Still breathless though. However, tonight I decided to go through test results from the past 18 months. > > Have found that my folate 18 months ago was 5.2 (3.4 - 17.5) > The MCV was 83.1 (80 - 100) (this shows small blood cells) > But ferritin was 95. > > It could well be that folate is now lower, I haven't supplimented. How does this tie in with good ferritin? this has been bothering me ...i think it is *enlarged* blood cells that indicate folate and/or vit b12 deficiency and small blood cells indicate iron deficiency. (haemoglobin would be low too). apparently h.pylori can be a cause of low ferritin. trish > > > Hi everyone, > > Have recently been feeling very weak and tired, and have become so exercise intolerant that even walking on a flat surface or climbin g one flight of stairs leaves me breathless and feeling like I've done a high intensity cardio session. Guest guest
Hi everyone, Well I went to the docs for some tests, I gave the locum a list of tests I would like along with reasons for them, I told her I thought I was either anemic or had heart problems. She listened to my heart and apparantly there is a murmur, so I had a ecg which was fine, and having a echocardiogram at end of dec. They took 7 vials of blood last thursday, the receptionist has just telephoned me and some tests are back. There is a problem with the liver test and they want to see me. I have a choice of doctors, the ignorant dutch one that is mad keen to stop t3 and get me on lots of T4...., or the patronising bitchy one who just wants to play golf and thinks I should try lighter life...... Decisions decisions....... any ideas? would poor liver function make me tired and exercise intolerant? I rarely drink alcohol as I don't like it. . Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'm still hammering this one out.... The Docs took blood and rang me in a panic saying doc wants to see me. So I went to see the receptionist yesterday and asked for the results (with ref ranges). The docs was quite because of the snow and she had time to read them out whilst I scibbled. Then the snotty nurse came in and was just patronising and rushed like she thought I shouldn't be given the results. I explained patiently that I would see the doc about them, but that I wanted to know the results first, so I could work out a solution, as my health care is a two way thing, I don't just blindly obey the doctor. (She had no reply for that ) The panic was because the thyroid test, was just TSH and it was 0.01. Ha ha ha..... I can rubbish that..... why did they test tsh only..... no problem there..... and the liver test results were all ok except Alkaline phosphatase which was 358 (100 - 335). Comments???? The other results of significance which they said were ok, but I'm thinking are not..... are: B12 431 (210 - 920) Folate 8.5 (has to be more than 5.4) MCV 80.7 (80 - 100) This has dropped a little. It shows the blood cells as small which indicate low iron. Low folate or B12 would cause large cells) Thyrocites (Red blood count?) 19 (supposed to be less than 20) Everything else was in middle of range and looks fine to me. So, they never measured ferritin, but last year this was good (may well have been infection). Could I be low on both Iron and B12? hence the small blood cells (which are getting smaller)..... Thalassemia? where the rbc stay small but no real cure.... prevalent in some parts of the world... not here, though my ancestry is Italian and Polish.... (How?) I think I should try Iron and B12..... are they ok together? I have agreed to allow the doc to see me on Tuesday next week and want to be sure I know what I want by then. Tests I requested that were not done were: **Copper (this can mimic anemia as it stops the red blood cells from using available iron) **Ferritin **D3 **Magnesium **Helicobactor Pylori (Most commoncause of Iron deficiency, husband was treated but I was never tested) x > > Hi , have a look at this web site - the symptoms definitely sound as > if your low folate could be the cause of you feeling as you do > http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/anaemia_folate.html
