Guest guest
Had 300,000 iu Vitamin D injection 4 weeks ago and have felt a lot worse since. Tests done Monday and now calcium, which was comfortably in range before has dropped out the bottom of the range. Range starts at 2.10. I am now testing at 2.02. Vitamin D has also been tested but result not back yet - ditto TSH and FT4. GP is clearly concerned. Seeing endo Monday anyway. Anyone got any thoughts? Guest guest
I tested at 10 on a range of 10 - 60 in April anad on 1,000 ius per day had only gone up to 25 by October so they decided I was deficient and needed injections, one in October and one next April. I suspect it was D2 that they gave me and my health went downhill almost immediately, rather than the improvement I was assured I would get. I'm not aware that there is anything more to it than that. The endos say I need iron therapy as well, but that has to be given by another department, which says I don't need it! D why are you being given such high doses of D? > > regards > > Mandy > >
Guest guest
Hi Mandy Read the information about Vitamin D3 in our FILES section thyroid treatment/files/VITAMIN%20D3/ Luv - Sheila Hi there - sorry I may have missed some of the string but why are you being given such high doses of D? regards Mandy PS D has to be metabolised via the kidney and will make you feel rough if you are unable to cope with such huge amounts
Guest guest
Now havae my latest test result back. My long post from Friday does not appear to have got past the mods? Guest guest
Dolly, I have just looked through all the messages from Friday and can't see any from you that were rejected..... If it was rejected by a mod, we would write and tell you why. . (Mod) > > Bumping because seeing endo tomorrow and getting very anxious. Guest guest
Can you remember the topic heading Dolly? Very rarely are messages rejected, and those that are would be because they were abusive, designed to cause trouble, or had messages still appended that needed deleting before they went onto the message board. When a message is rejected, it is always sent back to the member asking them to re-word it so as not to cause offence or asking the writer to remove messages and to leave just a small portion of what they were responding to. Are you sure that the latter did not happen to you. If that was the case, then you would have received the message back asking you to delete the messages and to re-send.  Have a look in the messages in your 'Sent' Box to see if it is there, and if so, please re-send. Guest guest
I posted again just about the Vitmain D and that one did get through, but no-one has responded. In summary I had an injection of 300,000 ius on 20 October and have felt awful since. I am seeing the endo tomorrow so have been tested again and find that my Vitamin D has now dropped to 22 (10-60) from 25 and my calcium has now dropped from a respectable 2.24 (range starts at 2.1) to 2.02, which is below range. I do not understand how this can happen and am worried that the endo will fob me off. Thanks SheilaDFrom: Sheila <sheila@...>thyroid treatment Sent: Sun, 28 November, 2010 16:30:12Subject: RE: Re: Quick Vitamin D question Hi Dolly, but how can we get a response to you if your long message hasn't appeared on the forum. Guest guest
Are you taking vit d3 or d2? the endo i saw said that with low vit d levels you will feel bad as you're increasing them until you get to a high enough level - i don't why though do you take vit k2? i don't know enough about this but thought i'd mention it in case you want to research it or mention it to your dr. i realise this is from a commerical site but here is some info on k2: " Isotonix Vitamin D with K2 contains vitamin D3, the metabolically active form of vitamin D, along with vitamin K2, a form of vitamin K which supports vascular health and calcium utilization. Isotonix Vitamin D is the first of its kind to deliver both of these powerful vitamins with isotonic delivery. Vitamin K is included in Isotonix Vitamin D with K2 because of its unique partnership with vitamin D. Vitamins K and D work together to support calcium absorption and utilization. Vitamin K supports the normal delivery of calcium to the bones and promotes healthy arteries. At least two naturally occurring forms of vitamin K have been identified and are known as K1 and K2. While there are many similarities between these two forms of vitamin K, they are distinguished by their important differences. The most significant difference between K1 and K2 is their chemical structure, which results in different pharmacokinetic properties. Vitamin K1 is retained primarily in the liver where, at high doses, it may interfere with the action of warfarin and other anticoagulant medications. Vitamin K2 has a different mechanism of action. It is transported primarily to bones and blood vessels. Vitamin K2 helps to maintain bone mass, support calcium utilization and promote elasticity of blood vessels. Guest guest
I just had the standard injection so I don't know whether it was D2 or D3. However, whatever it was my level has dropped since I had it and taken my calcium level with it, so that is now below range. I am trying to find out whether this has happened to anyone else. On an oral D3 supplement my level was rising slowly, but my calcium was healthy. Now I am afraid I am in real trouble and I am very worried about what the endo will say on my scheduled appointment tomorrow. Guest guest
Dolly, read the information in our FILES section. Scroll down to the FOLDER Vitamin D and in there, there is lots of information. See if you can glean something from there before tomorrow. Guest guest
Endo says the injection is very slow release and the nurse should have told me to continue my oral supplement for the time being. She told me exactly the opposite. D > > Dolly, read the information in our FILES section. Scroll down to the FOLDER Vitamin D and in there, there is lots of information. Guest guest
Other news is that I have a 5 day trial of 5mcg T3 to see if that makes me feel any better. I didn't ask for this, he volunteered it as TSH now 3.18 (0.35-6) and T4 13 (9-26), with a failed trial of thyroxine behind me and a T3 when last tested in the middle third of the range. GP has to prescribe - expecting a call tomorrow! Hopefully will start T3 on Saturday. How should I take it? Like T4 or differently? Thanks for your continued support. Guest guest
Hi Dolly, don't let this pathetically small trial be used to deny that T3 may be effective for you- ask for at least 10mcg if not 20 per day.less that this won't be noticeable unless you are hypersensitive( probably very low adrenals)- which is unusual. > thyroid treatment > From: dollymedlock@...> Date: Tue, 30 Nov 2010 09:31:48 +0000> Subject: Re: Quick Vitamin D question> > Oh, so not good news then... > > > I very much doubt that a 5 day trial of 5mcgs of T3 is going to make you> > feel any different at all. Guest guest
Thanks . Actually, thanks to a screw up at the pharmacy I can do 10mcg because I have 4 times as much T3 as the endo intended me to have! Took 5mcg this morning - no obvious difference, but I think I have been more productive than usual today. If no difference tomorrow will consider going to 10mcg. However, how I handle it then I am not sure as for some reason next appointment to see endo has come through for June. However, he did say to 'let him know how I get on' so will e mail him, although he usually takes weeks to reply, or so I am told. Not sure GP would give me any more because (a) he can't get tests done to monitor and ( he wouldn't even prescribe Vit D because endo ordered the test. Could be interesting.
