Guest guest
Hi , food intolerances are often an issue which hypo- especially if it is autoimmune when allergies etc are more common. Well worth a try- and if it works, you can then try going back to a 'normal' diet once you are well- you may have 'got over it' or may be stuck with it. I still can't use cow's milk, but no longer get hayfever. Not eating something you are intolerant to gives the body less stress at a time when you are trying to get it to heal. > thyroid treatment > From: stephanietrolle@...> Date: Thu, 18 Nov 2010 21:34:37 +0000> Subject: Wheat Allergy, Any advice?> > Hi!> I have recently tried to experiment with leaving bread out of my diet and am suffering much less belly bloating. > It was when I had the liver scan ( no results back yet) and only had fruit, lettuce, chicken and rice before it. It even seems cause swelling at the back near my ribs and my belly right from under my boobs!! If I can feel so much more comfortable with not eating wheat it will be worth it. Luv Stephie PS I have also lost two pounds, not much to write home about I know but I so hate carrying the extra 4 stone around with me I have gained since being ill. Anything helps! Guest guest
hi Stephie - I think you should investigate this a bit more and find out what tests the GP has done to say its not coeliac as sometimes you have to be tested a few times to show and also its recommended that you are eating the equivalent of 4 slices of bread per day for 6 weeks before testing for coeliac to give an accurate picture! GPs only recognise coeliac disease but there are other serious gluten sensitivities. Ive just posted about this earlier as Ive just been diagnosed with a gluten sensitivity that isnt coeliac but has caused nerve damage instead of enteropathy (gut damage) and the consultants I have seen are both specialists who are at the forefront of research and this week the neurologist told me that it is only just beginning to be known that there are many gluten sensitivities and that coeliac is only a small part of this, and not necessarily the most serious either! My GS has damaged my nerves causing peripheral neuropathy as well as damaging my thyroid and causing, vertigo, hypoglycaemia and minor bloating/diarrhoea, so this is really something worth investigating stephie. Ive got a good book from Amazon (buy through TPA's link please!) called Healthier without wheat: a new understanding of wheat allergies, coeliac disease and non coeliac gluten intolerance by Wangen (£12.64 when I bought it). I recommend this highly and think it will help you figure it out.get a referral to a gastroenterologist if you can because at least they understand that there are more types of GS than coeliac.Gill> I have recently tried to experiment with leaving bread out of my diet and am suffering much less belly bloating. > It was when I had the liver scan ( no results back yet) and only had fruit, lettuce, chicken and rice before it. Guest guest
Thanks so much for the reply Jeanette, I am sorry your doc will not prescribe anymore, what a pain in the but!! Or should I say behind the ribs and under the boobs. It is such a relief to know we are not alone with this. Years agoI used to suffer red hot poker pains and ended up eating practicaly nothing to avoid the pain in my stomach. Nexium eventualy came out and it proved a life saver for me as nothing else worked. The doc at the time said it was a good job it worked as next step was to remove part of my stomach!!!! I do not take it now and was congratulating myself on how many different food stuffs I could now eat without any problems. So pleased your goitre has gone down though. Guest guest
Hi Gill So gratefull for your reply and pleased you have been given a diagnosis albeit late in the day. I am under the gut specialist for IBS but hardly see them. The nurse said to contact her if it got worse so I will take your advice and get an appointment. I will also buy the book, I can remember my Mum being bloated by night and I put it all down to Hashi's which she never had diagnosed but I know she had it. Perhaps she had an intolerance as well. Must say I used to feel my food almost thuding through my gut before and loads of gas. That has improved dramaticaly as well. Thanks again. Guest guest
hi stephie i finally gave up all wheat products on 18 december 1998 (it was a new moon and that's always a good time to *change* a *habit*) ...what an amazing difference that made to my body and not having a pregnant looking stomach was wonderful! for me i feel it is the gliadin protein that is definitely the *poison* and nowadays wheat has been *contrived* to have high gluten/gliadin and the human digestive system has not been able to evolve quickly enough to keep up with this man-made *evolution* if you know what i mean. i find that i can occasionally eat organic oatmeal (porrige) with no problem but oats do not contain gliadin (can get contaminated during growing/processing though). i also find it's ok to occasionally eat something made with the older type of wheat (eg dinkel) i would urge everyone who has hashimoto's and doesn't feel *well* to try giving up all wheat and wait to be amazed http://www.drweyrich.com/disorders/hashimoto.html http://curezone.com/forums/am.asp?i=284803 >I have got some slight chest pain tonight would my body be absorbing the meds better already and be making me a bit hyper? I have only tried to do without Weetabix and bread for about 48 hours. is your chest pain better now ...? can i recommend you a yummy breakfast to replace weetabix ...a tablespoonful (or more) of freshly ground hazlenuts and sesame seeds with chopped apple with a little rice milk...it is very sustaining and full of goodness (i know it's more expensive but for me buying organic is essential). trish > > Hi! > I have recently tried to experiment with leaving bread out of my diet and am suffering much less belly bloating. Guest guest
> > > > Hi Trish Thanks for the advice, I have been having fruit n jelly for breakfast with a fruit Frube on top so the recipe is great. My Chest pains are improved thank you, but its always a bit scary when they happen although I should be used to it by now. I will have to learn as I go along with what I can eat but to have less bloating and be so much comfier around my body is like a gift. I have lost five pounds now which also helps.
