Guest guest
Also, ask your GP to test your blood levels of ferritin, vitamin B12, copper, magnesium, folate and, as Bob says, vitamin D1 and Zinc. When these are returned, post the results on to the forum, together with the reference range for each of the tests done. Luv - Sheila Zinc and/or vit D3 may do the trick.... can't be absolutely sure but worth a try... Bob

Max Max, I didn'r pick up on that yesyerday? are you a bloke?? They ought to be available from your GP, if not I am pretty sure Genova do saliva tests for sex hormones, SHBG would probably be serum. Guest guest
I would just simply write a letter to your doctor asking for an appointment to have blood tests for those I mentioned previously and for your sex hormones to be tested as you realise that should any of these be low in the reference range, they can affect your thyroid hormone being properly used in the cells. Write also that if he feels unable to do this, would he therefore refer you to an endocrinologist of your choice. Seems we cannot force our doctors into doing anything that we want, but put up a good case as to the reasons why you are requesting such tests and you are more likely to get them. Luv - Sheila Thanks everyone for all the helpful guidance. Because I self medicate, I'm in a not too favourable position with my practice (mainly one doctor, but there is stuff on my file). So, can I request the blood testing you recommended Sheila? Do I have the right to insist, or is it up to the GP? I've not had a blood test for 8 months, which was when I was so ill and I took myself off to see Dr.P. Nick, do you know if the same applies to the sex hormones and SHGB - are they available from my GP or private? Once I know the results of tests, I can consider progesterone or any other treatment. This forum has been a massive help to me. Sorry for the confusion Nick - I'm not a bloke, but that question made me laugh :-) Maxine Glad it raised a smile. Try your GP, levels of SGBH are known to change with thyroid levels and a lot of people benefit from getting them checked, normally day 21 of the cycle I believe. Genova can do them if your GP won't play ball. Nick
