Guest guest
I take my temp 3 times a day with a digital thermometer and over the last few days it's been averaging 36.9c. I don't feel well at all but surely this means that I'm on optimal doses of thyroid (despite only being on 20mcg T3). Is this always an accurate way to tell? Does it reflect what's getting into your cells or just circulating in the blood? It's often 37 during the day and going by that I should be feeling pretty well :-( am not! Thanks Hannah

You've still got excess T4 and RT3 and that will be giving a far degree of adrenal stress with it's own effects. as your T4 levels sink you may even have to lower T3 for a few days as it might start converting better as the levels sink, I did about a week along the journey. You will probably be ready for an increase in a week or so. Nick

I THOUGHT THE ONLY WAY TO GET RID OF RT3 AND GENERALLY FEEL BETTER WAS TO GET ON HIGHER DOSES OF T3. DO MY TEMPERATURES INDICATE THAT I WON'T NEED A HIGHER DOSE OF T3? Then you are not warm enough yet, 37C is the pre ovulation temperature, 37.2 as a Dr Rinf average is reasonable for post ovulation. >> > >I THOUGHT THE ONLY WAY TO GET RID OF RT3 AND GENERALLY FEEL BETTER WAS TO GET ON HIGHER DOSES OF T3. DO MY TEMPERATURES INDICATE THAT I WON'T NEED A HIGHER DOSE OF T3? IF SO I DON'T HAVE ANY OTHER WAY OF FEELING BETTER! it takes time to get there, you don't need to be hyper, just take enough T3 to replace the T4, as you increase each week TSH will go down and T4 production reduce so you edge up gently. If you are not getting symptoms of excess T3 (see the dosing page) then edge up a little as you are hypo by that temperature. What you are on now is replacing a little of what comes from T4, as the T4 reduces you will need more if you are up at around 75 by the 8 week mark that should be fine and it takes weeks to get there as t4 decays slowly. It iron or adrenals are low it takes longer to get there as you have intolerance issues. it takes patience, difficult when you are fed up with feeling bad Nick

Have to take larger and larger amounts of valsartan (now 320mg) plus water pills, to control my BP. Could this be related to or affect thyroid? I have asked on 3 occasions to include T3 test but Dr. just produces the usual. So no I don't think she would be flexible as regards prescribing T3! July 2009 Free T4 19.6 pmol/L (12 - 22) Free TSH .071 mu/L (0.3 - 4.2) Dec 2010 Free T4 19.0 " Free TSH 1.23 " Hope this gives some clue Luv >
Guest guest
Have you tried Niacin (vitamin B3) too help lower your BP http://www.ehow.com/facts_4830583_niacin-blood-pressure.html. Perhaps talk to your GP about this. You really should take Selenium 200mcgs with food daily and zinc also, as these help convert the thyroxine into the active thyroid hormone T3. Your high free T4 is an indication it is not converting. If your GP or local laboratory refuses to test your free T3, you can get this test done privately through Lab21 for £17 http://www.lab-21.com/healthcare/thyroid.php Luv - Sheila Thanks for that Sheila No I don't take any supplements at all. Guest guest
Sheila Thank you so much for your expert advice, it is invaluable. I never had a clue about the supplements I should be taking and will get myself some asap. Am awaiting some blood test results from my Drs. and if the T3 is STILL not included I will get it done privately. If possible could you please send me names of any good endos in the Sussex area? Thanks again Luv > You really should take Selenium 200mcgs with food daily and zinc also, as > these help convert the thyroxine into the active thyroid hormone T3. Guest guest
If this was me, I would throw out the 33 degree C temperature taken under the arm - this shows you are suffering with hyperthermia, never mind hypothyroidism and need urgent attention. 36.4 looks more realistic. Whenever you take your temperature ALWAYS take it the same way and at the same time of day so you get consistency. Luv - Sheila Hi...would love some advice here. Have just taken temp. 21.11 hrs...underarm = 33.0 -orally 36.4 ???. Which one should I take notice of??? I am hypothyroid and B12 deficient. Thanks for any responses xx
