Guest guest
Ms. Muse: I am interested in your case--my husband was diagnosed with CML in July. But after having suffered a stroke and a blood clot in his brain (at age of 33, both thought to have happened due to the CML), he is doing great now, and recovering quickly. He is living pretty normally right now, and is on Gleevec (only 200mg right now and is working back up to hopefully 400/500mg. He was on 500mg/day but it kept pushing him into a neutropenic state, having NO neutrophils and hardly any white blood cells). The thing is, his body has responded so strangely to Gleevec over the past few months (no bad side affects, really, but his WBC count keep dropping to literally 0, putting him in the hospital for weeks at a time). We are lucky to live in Los Angeles area and we are lucky to have been referred to City of Hope Cancer Center (we have Kaiser health insurance and they, too, have been awesome). Anyway, the City of Hope specialists there have requested my husband's BMB (from when he was diagnosed), because their comments based on how strangely his body has reacted to Gleevec was: " I wonder if he even HAS CML. " Some of the specialists in the beginning thought his body was reacting to Gleevec just like someone would who does not actually have CML! These specialists were involved with the trials of Gleevec and have never seen anyone respond to it the way my husband has. So--from being on the forum, etc....do you know if anyone else has been mis-diagnosed? Just wondering...it seems like it would be hard to mis-diagnose CML since it is a chromosomal change...isnt that a pretty obvious thing to a BMB technician? I am asking because I truly dont know... Guest guest
Dear Ari, It's so sad that parents are made to feel so afraid. As for your PS - that is really sweet of you. There are lots of positives in DS's life, but, wow, I certainly failed to protect him. One day I hope he will understand enough to forgive me. Love, Mara From: <carriefincher> Subject: Never mind I'm leaving Vaccinations Date: Tuesday, February 10, 2009, 5:14 AM After seeing that nobody wants to help they just want to change my mind I am leaving this group. Please remove me. When I joined I was told that I could recieve support even though I have decided to selectively vax rather than go completely vax free. With my husband in the military and fighting a loosing battle againest terrorism of all kinds, including bio terrorism, I am more aware of the potential hazard of some diseases being used as weapons. He too is painfully aware of this everytime he gets the Anthrax vax...But maybe it would be better for him to tell them no thanks, I take the disease instead. He has seen what the mutated forms of diseases can do and I am not willint to take that chance. Since I recieved judgement instead I wold rather find a more welcoming and less judgemental crowd. I won't pretend to know what it's like to have a family member injured by vax's and I would never dream of telling you to vax after the experiences you have had. But don't tell me I am doing my child a dis-service by selective vaxing. I spent a LONG time researching and made my educated desicion based on that. I am not some young thing who doesn't know. I am a college educated, intelligent, 33yr old woman and would appreeciate respect for my parenting choices. Thank you and good luck to those of you trying to change the way vax's are made so they can be safer for my grandchildren. Keep fighting the good fight. Guest guest
Hi , I too came on this group to learn more and for support. I was thinking I would selectively vaccinate as well. In fact, my son received Hib, prevnar, dtap, and rotavirus vax at 2 months (although not completely my choice.) Then I studied more and realized the vaccines I did not want in fact never had a role in decreasing disease mortality and could be very dangerous. Then I discovered the same was true for the vaccines that I was planning on continuing with. Plus, I learned meningitis was 5 times more common in the vaccinated (and meningitis was the thing I was truly scared about.) So no more vaxxes after 2 months for my son. As time passes you study more and feel more confident and realize you made the best decision. Plus, during that time my son was never sick, no colds or anything, he only had a mild case of roseola at 12 months and was fine with no doctor intervention. He has not been sick in the slightest since and he is 22 months. So as time passes you realize that yes, children can survive without vaccines, and in most cases are much healthier. With people in the military, I think it's aweful they inject them with experimental vaccines and they don't have any freedoms to refuse. I have a friend who was in Iraq for a while and the whole time she was there and now even, she is miserable. She is in constant pain, is depressed, and has all kinds of symptoms. She is constantly fighting with doctors to get some beneficial treatment. Telling them her symptoms started right after the vaccinations they completely dismiss her and basically tell her she is just crazy and give her anti-depressant pills which of course, do not help her at all. It is horrible how vaccine injured people are treated. Also, I understand the threat of mutaded diseases that may be used for biowarfare. But in this case, if it is mutated, even the best, most poweful vaccine will not do anything for it. If lets say you get a measles vaccines and assuming it works 100% it will not secure you against a mutated measles virus. I really don't think that if a terrorist group is going to use some mutated virus against us, that they will first contact the U.S. and tell them what they will be using and give time to make a vaccine. Plus, I know people are very afraid of anthrax and smallpox being used for this purpose, but there are countless other diseases that can be used so vaccinating for all of them would be impossible. Even if you leave this group, keep researching yourself. I did not believe anything coming from this group at first and had to look everything up for myself. When I first read something about monkey kidney virus contaminated polio vaccines, I started laughing and thought it was just ludicrous and like science fiction. I did not believe it and wondered how all the crazy anti-vaccine people could believe it. Turns out it was absolutely true! So keep learning and good luck.
