Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeldegskb@... section 72d My son receives services from the Association for Individual Development (AID) in Aurora. We are their first family in this program. If anyone with section 72d funding in Kane County is considering various agencies, AID is an option. BTW, Little Friends in Naperville has an outstanding program for children with autism, but is currently at capacity. Possibly it was because of his severity or possibly because they felt at that time that they had no one skilled in working with people like Luke. On the plus side, they located an agency (the same one I found on my own) that would serve Luke and referred me to them. Like nearly everything we experience -- " your results may vary. It is not my intention for us to bad mouth agencies, which I do not feel you have done in your comments. I do think families would appreciate knowing which agencies have had the most success with our children. That is a big part of what this group is all about; helping one another make the best possible choices by sharing information, good, bad or otherwise. We moved to Naperville 2 years ago and I just heard of it when we registered for PUNS ( thanks to the efforts of ACC ) I was told we must first choose a provider before they submit the application. We are in Dupage county and I was wondering if AID also serves this area and if any other parents can share success stories concerning providers to help us choose. Thank you. Guest guest Posted December 3, 2006 Report Share Posted December 3, 2006 When we were first accepted into the 72d program, AID referred us to to two college students who worked with our son on weekends until they graduated. For now, my husband and I have been able to recruit young adults (students) to provide hours. I would like community colleges to do some training and recruiting. I wonder if anyone in the group has some thoughts about how to advocate for that? I know several families with 72 D funding through Clearbrook and for the most part, they are satisfied, though from time to time they do have gaps in service due to lack of staff. Guest guest Posted December 4, 2006 Report Share Posted December 4, 2006 We started the process February 05, finally approved by DHS November 05, and selected Clearbrook as provider shortly thereafter. They have hired new caseworkers because of the high volume and we are meeting with our new one next week. We'll see what that brings. If different agencies have different protocols for the same program (in this case 72d), it brings to light the potential gaps in services provided in our "fine" state.
