I have been losing weight by being on a diuretic for high blood pressure and

Synthroid for my thyroid. Plus watching what I eat

Great work Carol! It's good to hear of your success with the weight loss. I

agree it must help with the symptoms of CMT of carry less weight around. Keep

up the good work.

In an effort to make other peoples lives easier I have had to really work at loosing weight,I say this cause when I fall down (and that happens more and more as I begin to get overconfident with myself.)who wants to pick up a two hundred and twenty five pound sack of potatoes?

Two months now of a low carb diet and I am at two oh five.I say low carb yet all I did was cut out breakfast and most wheat products.

I feel great specially after getting into my 36" waist bluejeans again!I believe the LDN makes me not crave the sugars and chocolates I was before.

I lost weight at the beginning of LDN. 31 pounds. Even when I slip off of my good food diet, I really don't put the weight on. I beleive that it's the LDN.

I agree Reg. Back when LDN was working better for me I had no interest in chocolates and other sweet goodies.

Congratulations Reg! Good for you :) I've been able to keep my weight

controlled (150-155) the past few years only through the MS diet

(Swank); even though I cheat occasionally. Might be a bit less now a

few wks on LDN but haven't checked. It does make wheeling me around

etc. easier for others. Would like to loose a few more so we'll see.

Hi Donna,

To start I am only going to use the Omega and E. It says on one page if you need

to start off with those two. This morning I weighed the same as yesterday. That

is good for me I usually go up by now.

Let me offer a comment or two about weight loss.

In the past 15 months I have had major surgery on both feet. In the months that

followed each procedure, I spent weeks lying on the couch with my foot in the

air. I gained about 30-40 lbs over the course of my recovery and am in the

process of losing it.

But, I make an effort to avoid the scales, focusing instead on

my mobility. I work at riding the exercise bike and lifting weights; all the

while assessing what helps me get around better. Before surgery, I could barely

walk without double upright braces. Now, I walk much better with custom made

orthotics and my decreasing size.

How much have I lost? I don't really know and as much as I would like to step

on the scale to check, I avoid the scales. When I get tempted to weigh in, I

redirect my focus to the issue of my mobility. I ask myself questions like what

would you like

to do tomorrow? How far can you walk now without pain? What activities can you

do now? What new activities can you add? This has worked wonders for me and I

am more physically active now than I have been in years.

Recently, while out shooting, I hit a target at an unusually long range. I

decided to walk to where I hit the target. With only the aid of a walking stick

for balance I walked down a long slope and back up, over uneven terrain, without

difficulty, something I would not have attempted at all 2 years ago. The total

distance was 500 yards. That walk is the most fun I have had in years.

This past weekend, I accompanied my wife to our favorite outdoor

botanical gardens where I walked much further than 500 yards. With the surgery

cuts finally healed I will begin swimming. Again, my mobility is what is

important and I will continue to avoid weighing myself. I hope something I have

said here will help others. Good luck.

Hi Tom,

What a great and inspiring story - I am so excited to hear that you

are doing so well after surgery!

I totally agree - weight and fitness for me are all about how you feel

and ensuring continued mobility. That is why I pay attention to what

works for me. I want to make sure that I am outside enjoying myself

pain free and steady for a long time if not a life time!

Tom,

To get active is the key. You are one of the fortunate ones. You have had

success and great doctors.

When obese and can't walk either, well, it's slow.

Hi Patty,

Gretchen has been doing water aerobics and looks HOT I tell ya! She is my

inspiration.

I took phentermine. My doctor was so happy with me today. You know doctors

always tell you bad stuff its nice to hear good news for once.

I have lost 26.4 pounds total :)

Hi . Thanks for writing so soon. What exactly did you take to

lose weight? I have done weight watchers myself but seems to be

harder and harder to lose it. I don't know what you mean when you

say you want to get where Gretchen is. Did she lose weight too?

Also, I'd love to hear how CMT has affected you and how you manage

day to day.

I thought I'd chime in on the weight issue too. When I was put on

Gleevec 4.5 years ago, I had an appetite to choke a horse. I gained

40 pounds and enjoyed everything I put in my mouth.

About two years ago, I was tired of being fat so I joined Weight

Watchers and lost the weight. It took a lot of effort but I managed

to do it.

Now that I've switched over from the capsules to the pill, my

appetite has taken a sharp dive, I'm nauseous most of the time and

with no effort, I've lost 10 pounds in the last month. I have to

force everything in my mouth, nothing tastes like anything and for

the first time im my life and I can say that I'm eating to survive,

not surviving to eat. I suppose that is a good thing but, I find

the pendulum has swung too far back in the other direction now.

I suppose like all the other side effects, it's a small price to pay

to stay alive but I do worry sometimes about getting all the

nutrients I need when I can't put anything in my mouth without the

threat of vomiting.

As far as weight goes do what you can to lose it. I feel so much better now that

I have lost 30 pounds. My Dr. wanted my weight off as fast as possible while

keeping healthy. I actually lost it faster than he thought I would.

Keeping it off is easier now that I am educated on calories and fats. Weight

loss is actually fun. Well maybe not fun losing weight :) But fun once its off!

I have a few things to tell you about weight loss. I was told a few months ago

to lose some weight because my legs are losing a lot of muscle and my weight is

not helping it. So I asked the Nutritionist at the MDA clinic I go to how I go

lose some weight.

She told me to stay away from sugar. Also I get migraines so I have to stay

away from caffeine. So for the past month I have been drinking only water,

crystal light, diet Pepsi (caffeine free) and

also I stay away from white bread because white bread has a lot of sugar in it.

I got on the scale the other day and I have lost about 10 pounds. I am so sure

that if I keep this up that I will lose more weight which is what I really need

to do. I hope this helps out people.

Hi there,

Ketosis is the same state that the Atkin's diet produces. You can actually

if I remember correctly buy the indicator sticks (like pee on a stick

pregnancy tests) to monitor the body's state, in urine if you pass protein

then you are in ketosis.

I would only do something so strict in supervision, either with a trained

nutritionist or doctor monitoring me.

For 25 pounds, I think that with a good diet (again see a nutritionist to

understand your eating pattern by keeping a food diary, then reviewing, and

learning new shopping habits) combined with regular exercise could achieve a

similar result in a slower but maybe healthier timeframe.
