We are lucky here...four males and me. Adam is in the middle. ?From the

beginning we boughyt him an electric shaver and Art modeled how to shave,

both on his face and on Adam's. Adam is 19 so this has been going on for

about 5 years. Now, Adam shaves and asks Art to check. From the early

part, Art woyld have to give Adam a pretty thourough " once Over " , now only

once in a while will Art suggest going over a part of Adam's face. Adam has

a very dense thick beard. Adam has to be responcible for charging, and if

he forgets he will hunt down Art's shaver. It is part of Adam's p.m.

ritual. No one in my house uses a regular razor, except me, and I have to

wonder about the wisdom on that one! Good luck , happy new year, Cindi

Hi -

We bought Josh a panasonic electric razor that is a wet/dry and approach shaving like toothbrushing.

Josh's razor was introduced with visual sequencing strip. His father demonstrated then we gave Josh the shaver to hold and imitate. Then we moved into hand over hand. Josh shaves everyday not because his beard requires it but because it is better to have shaving in his daily routine.

The norelco razor and a few others have 3 floating round heads. This style did not "fit" well to the shape of Josh's face.

We bought the wet/dry style because Josh shaves in the bathroom and you never know what can happen. <G>

Hi all,My son who is 14 1/2 years old is getting to the point where he will need to start shaving his face. He is minimally verbal, and has ok fine motor skills. I am wondering what others have done about shaving.....did you teach your sons to shave with an electric razor or start out with a regular manual razor? Anyone with past experience on this who is willing to share would be much appreciated. I know this is small in the scheme of things, but I always appreciate hearing from those who have been down this path before. Thanks in advance,Lynda Rands

Thanks for the laugh (the part about YOU using a straight razor)...too funny!

ly, even with my ok eyesight, it is a hazard!

Noah also uses an electric razor. Has anyone figured out a good way to keep kids from shaving off sideburns?

I still shave Noah but I am certain this is something he can learn to do on his own, but I am wondering about how to teach him to work within "boundaries". Eyelining pencil comes to mind. What do you think?

We started with a straight razor but I did not think Noah could be independent in shaving this way on his own. We switched to an electric razor several years ago and now I must proceed with that independent part!

We have used both electric and a regular, disposable razor with , who is 26 and who is, along with my hubby and other two sons, an Italian male (that would be hairy with a thick beard). Hubby is in charge and Russ, being no dummy, will not allow me to come near him with a razor of any sort LOL!

The electric is a Braun, the kind that has a cleaning option you can run every so often. With that thick a beard, that is important. He has delicate skin, so we use a "sensitive" disposable and a gel shaving cream. The problem has been with both, because of his autism, he likes and I mean REALLY LIKES some of these things so much, he forgets the shaving part. With the electric, he likes the vibration and feel of it on his face it, um, well......we don't use it very often now. He has always liked shaving cream and would rather play with it than use it, which is why we use the gel. Hubby does it every evening.

We have tried to get him to shave independently--we thought the electric would be the answer and are looking for another brand/kind that would NOT bring him so much pleasure (if you get my drift)so he would get down to business. I do not feel comfortable with him shaving himself with the disposable. Last year, at the holidays, hubby kept missing a part on his chin and Russ had a "soul patch" and ALL the males in the family grew one for solidarity with him. They walked into the family holiday parties and everyone roared when the "Amenta Soul Brothers" entered.
