It's frustrating to be in pain and have a Dr. who doesn't do much of anything to help. What a relief to finally find a great Dr.! With any luck they'll be able to give you some sort of diagnosis and treat you aggressively. I hope your blood pressure goes down soon. I have always had low blood pressure, but if I'm in a lot of pain it's borderline to high. Maybe that's a factor, too. Love and hugs, Carol [ ] New Doctor Visit Hi Everyone! I just want to share how happy I am with my new doctor, Dr. Hart!!!! Wow! What a great lady and Doc she is! Very impressive! Since I couldn't walk for 4 days last week and had such tremendous pain I went back to the dippy doc and he put me on 40mg Prednisone 1 per day for 5 days, then 30mg 1 per day for 5 days, then 20 mg 1 per day for 5 days, then 10, then 5 and then 2.5...all for 5 days. Plus Flexiril (sp) Muscle Relaxer. He also gave me a shot of Depro Medro!! Then sent me on my merry way and said " If it comes back we can run some different tests! I've been holding off on them and we can try some other things! " I went to him in desperation this last week because I couldn't get into Dr. Hart until today. She was not happy at all about the lack of treatment, pain mangagement (letting me go two weeks at a time in pain before doing something...he's done this several times now), now with the Prednisone AGAIN...so many other things that are better on your system then that. Nor was she happy that he had but me on the other med (not the Flexiril but Diclofenac) as she said it will make you sick...not good on your stomach. She looked at my lab tests, listening to my symptoms and treatments, checked over my joints, noted that my knee was still swollen (she would have died if she'd seen it last week...made three of my right one!), etc. Then she asked me if I could give her a day or two because she wanted to check with Dr. Bronson, in St. Joe, who is a Rheumatoidologist (hurray! Finally!!!!) to see what they could put together for me while I waited for an appointment with him!!! She mentioned that he had a clinic in Cameron, a Pain Management Clinic, etc. and asked if I would be willing to see him. Yes, yes, yes!!!!!!!! So, we are going to continue the Prednisone taper and as I taper off she game a bunch of free samples of Celebrex to try but not to start until she says and after she talks with Dr. Bronson. May go with on methotrexate or something else. She also told me after looking at my lab work and my sytmptoms, etc., that it is very very probable that I have RA! Bless this woman for seeing things are they are! I'm just so happy to finally have someone that really really listens to me. She will answer any questions I have until she's sure I understand. One big concern was my blood pressure. I'm being treated for high BP but it usually runs around 135/85 or 90 when I go to the dippy doc. At home it's about 122/79 or so. Well, I was sooooo nervous and sooooo scared, etc., that I really built " up " my pressure. When I checked in it was 180/104!! Then after it was all over they checked it again and it was 204/103!!!!!!!!!! So she told me to go to the Health Dept and have it checked tomorrow and have them fax it to her. I have so much tension on BP lately that it's not helping me. I go to the doc and know someone is gonna come at me with a cuff and it's gonna be up and on and on. However, I think it will calm down and now I know her and it will be better next time. Whew! Sorry for being so long winded but am so happy to be getting the attention that I should have! It's great (great being a relative term) when you are properly diagnosed and the worry about what you may have is over. Plus, a proactive doctor is a beautiful thing. With your blood pressure, I wonder if you experience white coat syndrome, where your blood pressure rises when you are about to have it taken. Anyway, congratulations again. Have a great day. She sounds like she will do what it takes to find out what is going on, and treat you. As far as the pressure, Al is right. My husband suffers from white coat high blood pressure. We take it at home and it is normal. If the doctor takes it, it¹s high. Now we tell the doctor that he has WC pressure, and they take it again later in the visit. I always comes down. I'm happy that she's not satisfied with your prior treatment and is recommending a rheumatologist for you. I'm sure it's a big relief to finally see a physician who cares. Isn't it nice to finally find a doctor who will really listen to you and strive to do whatever they can to make you feel better? My doctor is like that, and also a great listener, and I am really happy with her. She is a g.p., I switched for a while to a rheumatologist but he did nothing to help me really, and then have gone back to my g.p. and she has helped me so much. Hope that your doctor is able to get you feeling better soon - sounds like she is on the right track at least and you have made a good doctor-patient connection with her. Blood pressure was way up!! I am not comfortable with this woman and everytime I go to her my pressure is up. She even put me on blood pressure medication!! My regular doctor says it isn't needed!!!He's been doctoring me for 28 years, So who do I believe? Personally I quit taking it and my pressure is just fine. Depending on the dr I am seeing, my blood pressure goes higher. Have you seen this dr more than a few times were you would be comfortable around him and did your BP continue to be up when you see him? Guest guest Posted October 19, 2006 Report Share Posted October 19, 2006 Hi all, Well tomorrow is the big day. I am have my first appointment with a new Onco here in Cincinnati. I did not want to leave my doctors in Louisville, despite having problems with Dr. Montez, but the drive every month was rough on me and my pocket book. So I really had no choice. I have to admit I am a bit worried. I am hoping this new doctor is not going to want to experiment on me, or want to change my treatment, because, despite the side effects I have with Gleevec it is keeping my blood counts within remission guidelines. They go up and down but have none of them have gotten into the danger zone. So in my mind if it is not broke don't fix it. I have been worried for the past week about this visit and honestly dreading it, because every time I have seen a new doc(twice since being dxed) they always want to do a BMB. I know I am being a sissy, but to me they hurt like hell, and at CBC(where I was going) they were only going to give me a local and not medicate me any other way, at least until I told Dr. Huber that unless he wanted me to jump off the table it would be wise to give me something to remain calm..hehehe. One thing I can say good about the first doc that I fired was that he did a great job with my first BMB. Dr. Huber stabbed me at least 10 times when he was giving the local for my second BMB, and my hip was sore for weeks after. I guess I spooked him so much he wanted to make sure the local took..hehehe. My biggest worry to be honest is when it comes down to my disability insurance company. I am not sure how many remember my recent post about Aetna calling me, but they have me pretty worried. I don't discuss it with Regina because she worries enough as it is about me. Not to mention I have been having one of my " bad " spells. For the last week and a half I have felt like crap, and the pain(the meds still help most of it) has been pretty bad. I have had to lay down every day, and despite having more good times then bad, when the bad times hit, it just reminds me of the fight I am in. Anyway, this thing with a new doctor, and Aetna changing what their definition of me being disabled is, has me very concerned. It is not that I do not want to work. Trust me, I would love nothing better than to be making the kind of money I was when I was able to work, and I loved my job. It is just if Aetna finds a way to not pay me I will be totally screwed, and if this new doc is one of those types that is not going to be supportive that could really cause me problems. I may be over reacting, but it just seems since Regina and I got together and I have tried to make a new life with her, we have had one thing after another go wrong. The one good thing so far is we are moving to a house, but there are worries there that we will be having a rougher time making it there. I keep my game face on for Regina, because she has Crones disease and does not handle stress well at all. She knows I have been feeling bad lately, but I just tell her it is the flu because I do not want her to worry to much. She told me a few weeks ago that sometimes in the middle of the night she reaches over and feels my chest to make sure I am still breathing, so I know she is worried about me allot. I keep telling her if I go it will not be one of those over night things and not to worry, but I know she still does. I am sorry for such a long post, but since I have moved here to Ohio, I really do not have anyone to rant to, my family(back in Indiana) were not supportive at all about Regina and I hooking up, and even though my mom and I speak on the phone, I can't talk to her about concerns because she either goes into " I told you so " mode, or worries more than she already probably does. So I really do not have anyone here I feel I can talk to. Don't get me wrong Regina is very supportive, it is just she has health issues herself and worrying about me just makes hers worse. One good thing that happened recently is I have gotten back in touch with my birth father. I call him that because he and my mom divorced when I was young so I never really got to know him. He lives in Colorado and works for the Air Force doing something(classified) and seems to want to be in my life, but like I told him, for now it is going to have to be through email and over the phone, because I do not know when or if I will ever have the money to visit. The thing is I now understand why things turned out the way they did between us.(another story way to long to tell) I told him I do now understand, and will not pull away from him like I use to in the past, so I guess we will wait and see.
