Guest guest
Dear Everyone, Many people are concerned about the upcoming transit doomsday on Nov. 4th. The state legislature and the Governor have yet to solve the impending budget shortfall of CTA, Pace and Metra. We know that the paratransit fare is scheduled to increase and that CTA plans to cut 82 bus routes by next year…this is more than half of their existing routes. Pace will also be cutting bus routes and Pace and CTA regular price fares will be increasing. CTA reduced fare cards will not increase in price. The Civic Action Team (the name of the participant's government action group) is going to attend the upcoming public hearings regarding the CTA service cuts on Tuesday, Oct. 30th at 6pm at Lane Tech High School. If any of you are interested in going please contact me by e-mail or just show up at the hearing. If you can't make the hearing on the 30th there are two other hearings listed on the flyer. Also there are numbers that people can call to demand that the Democratic leaders solve this problem by providing a long term funding solution for mass transit. The most realistic solution is a bill called SB 572. The Governor has promised to veto it but with a 3/5 majority the State Legislature can still pass it. We are looking for persons served who want to attend the hearing and staff to help with transportation. If you can help out by telling the people in your programs about the hearing and forwarding a list of people who are interested in going to me and Zamojski. We will be limited in how many people we can assist in going to the hearings by availability of transportation so, again if you can help with transportation contact me and as well. Please CC us both on e-mails so that if one of us is unavailable we still get the message. Thanks, -Dan B-R Coordinator of Grassroots Advocacy Please post the attached flyer and distribute. Inform those without access to e-mail please. <<SAVE Transit Services.doc>> PS. For all of you more affected by Pace in Lake County and Northern Cook there will be hearings at Pace HQ as well. They are listed on the attached flyer named Save Transit Services - Pace (to follow) <<SAVE Transit Services- Pace.doc>>
