Recently got this info from Marsie Frawley @ Health and Disability Advocates: On another note, during the January 17th, 2007 Benefits Information Summit in Chicago , we had a discussion about Project Ground Floor. This had been a low interest loan program for individuals with developmental disabilities to purchase their own homes. It had been funded by the Illinois Housing Development Authority and implemented through the Illinois Department of Human Services through two case service agencies in Illinois . Please note that this program is no longer in existence. We will keep you apprised as we learn of any other housing program options for people with disabilities. As always, should you have any questions, please feel free to write or call Health & Disability Advocates! Have a good day, Marsie Marsie L. Frawley Health & Disability Advocates 205 W. ,

No…not that I am aware of.

There are some cities that offer HOME funds. HOME funds are from Illinois

Housing Development Authority. It is my understanding that the city has

the right to offer assistance as down payment funds or mortgage assistance,

however, you would need to check about the flexibility of use. Eligibility

for HOME funds is income.

It is also my understanding that there are

no immediate plans to re-establish Project Ground Floor.

I have heard various answers to that

question; such as,

there

was not a great enough need,

the

process and eligibility was too narrow to be of much use to many recipients,

It

did not provide enough financial assistance for down payments

There is not real clarity on why Project

Ground Floor was closed.

Marise,

Thank you for the information about Project Ground Floor. Unfortunately, I

know of no other home assistance programs that are specifically set aside for

individuals with disabilities.
